| #1seladorJul 28, 2008 6:04:49 | I've just agreed to run a short adventure for 2 1st level pcs. probably one Cleric or Warlord and one Wizard. My only problem is that I'm supposed to be running this about in 6 hours, 2 hours after I finish work tonight. I therefore respectfully ask minds faster than mine if they can help me out before I end up having to wing the entire adventure. I've got a basic (very basic) structure to be filled out, and a total budget of 1,200exp to fill encounters with: Characters meet in the Fallcrest Catacombs and notice "Something Amiss" such as a sercet door left ajar or maybe a torch moving behind a supposedly walled of cavern. Encounters lead/force the duo further into the crypts where they stumble upon "Nefarious Deeds" of a necromantic nature, these acts are (hopefully) interrupted then the Necromancer makes a break, I'd thought past a Pauper's Grave where the Nercomancer has plenty of minions to slow the PCs while he makes good his escape (for later evil). What i really need help with is balanced encounters etc that will let the players get a hang of their characters in both terms of characterization and system. Maps, Creatures, page references for the Monster Manual and rough amounts of treasure rewards to parcel out wouldn't go amiss either. Thanks in advance |

Goblin Cutters are pretty disposable but can be a pain in numbers especially without an AOE on the player's side. You can always just change the description, make them human (or whatever) pawns of the BBEG, vary their weapons a bit, some with short swords, some with long daggers (don't worry about changing the stats, I wouldn't anyway). This: http://www.asmor.com/scripts/4eEncounterGen/index.php Might help you out as well. I'd lean on a sneakier type complex where they'll run into small patrols, perhaps 1 goblin warrior (aka Sr. Pawn) and two goblin cutters (aka jr. spawn). Bump that up at times to as high as maybe 6 cutters, or two warriors, etc. Lots of twisty pathways to explain why they can't be found when they need tot ake a 5 minute break. As a necro thing you could easily add in zombie rotters, those are great for munching on. Or in the Dragon issue there are actually human thugs and the like that you could use directly. As a way to get into it quick, you could run the adventure in the back of the DMG, just drop the number count and have a shining knight of some kind show up to help with the dragon at the end.
