This is really just a quick adoption of the Wizard class, for players who want an arcane spellcaster but don't like preparing spells. It's kind of a blend of the Wizard and Warlock classes.

CLASS TRAITS

Role: Controller. You exert control through magical effects that cover large areas—sometimes hindering foes, sometimes consuming them with fire.
Power Source: Arcane. You channel arcane forces through sheer force of will, wielding inborn magic the way others wield swords. Casting a spell is as natural to you as tying your shoe or walking down the stairs.
Key Abilities: Charisma, Wisdom, Dexterity

Armor Proficiencies: Cloth.
Weapon Proficiencies: Simple Melee and Ranged
Implement: Rods, Staffs, Wands
Bonus to Defense: +2 Will.

Hit Points at 1st Level: 12+ Constitution Score.
Hit Points per Level Gained: 5
Healing Surges per Day: 6+ Constitution Modifier.

Trained Skills: From the class skills list below, choose 4 trained skills at 1st level.
Class Skills: Arcana (Int), Bluff (Cha), Diplomacy (Cha), Insight (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Streetwise (Cha).

Class features: Arcane Implement Mastery, Innate Spell, Lightning Rod, Simple Sorcery

ARCANE IMPLEMENT MASTERY
You specialize in the use of one kind of implement to gain additional abilities when you wield it. Choose one of the following forms of implement mastery: Rod of power, Staff of defense, Wand of accuracy.

ROD OF POWER
Once per encounter as a free action, you gain a bonus to a single damage roll equal to your Charisma modifier. You must wield your rod to benefit from this feature. This form of mastery is good for sorcerers because it helps increase the damage they do.

STAFF OF DEFENSE
A staff of defense grants you a +1 bonus to AC. In addition, once per encounter as an immediate interrupt, you gain a bonus to defense against one attack equal to your Constitution modifier. You can declare the bonus after the Dungeon Master has already told you the damage total. You must wield your staff to benefit from these features. This form of mastery is useful for all wizards, particularly if you dabble in both control and damage-dealing spells.

WAND OF ACCURACY
Once per encounter as a free action, you gain a bonus to a single attack roll equal to your Dexterity modifier. You must wield your wand to benefit from this feature. This form of mastery is good for sorcerers because it helps increase their accuracy with damaging powers.

SIMPLE SORCERY
You can use the ghost sound, light, mage hand, and prestidigitation cantrips as at-will powers.

LIGHTNING ROD (Not the best name, I know...)
Magic beacons to magic, and no-one knows this better then you. Once per turn as a minor action, you can mark the nearest enemy to you that you can see.
Once per round, you can slide the marked target after hitting it with an attack. The distance is based on your level. If you can make multiple attacks in a round, you decide which attack to apply the slide effect to after all the attacks are rolled.
The mark remains until the end of the encounter or until the marked enemy is defeated.
You can mark multiple targets over the course of an encounter; each mark requires the use of a minor action. You can’t mark a creature that is already marked by another sorcerer.
NOTE: This ability counts as a Warlock's Curse for the purpose of rods
As you advance in level, your distance increases.
Level Distance
1st–10th 1 square
11th–20th 2 squares
21st–30th 3 squares

I was working on a quick fix for the Sorceror as well. Basically, instead of learning 2 spell powers every level, you only learn one, but you can cast encounter and daily twice as often. Similar to the 3.5 Sorcerer casting more often than the wizard, but with few spells known.

Both konzepts have a very good feeling to them!

But you'll excuse if I wait for the 4E sorcerer (he looked really nice in the preview book) ;)

But man i would play both konzepts

It looks good, my only question is say you can cast burning hands and chill strike, both as per encounter spells, if you start the day off casting burning hands but then run into an encounter that you'd rather use chill strike on, would that switch up be allowed?

No. You can cast 1 spell of each category (level 7 attack, level 2 utility, etc) per day.

I can't really see any reason to play a wizard compared to this sorcerer. It has more weapons, more HP, more skills to choose from, and a nice enemy-sliding ability, all at the expense of the wizard's affinity for rituals. Innate Magic is better than the wizard's Spellbook, except that the wizard can take the book-expanding feat. It gives him both more choices than the wizard and the ability to pick them on the fly.

While still more appealing than a spellbook, I think the extra choices in encounter powers better embody the sorcerer's concept, where as dailies are the wizard's forté, and shouldn't be expanded for the sorcerer.

The 3.5 sorcerer had more weapons as well. In any case, weapons shouldn't matter too much to a spell-caster- why are you in the front line? You're still squishier then almost anything else (Warlords and Clerics get armor, while Con is a primary casting stat for Warlocks), but you're a bit tougher then a wizard because you didn't spend all day studying books.

I kept the expanded daily spells because I wanted more of a combat-focus to the sorcerer (hence dropping rituals and utilities). No wizard worth his salt is without the Expanded Spellbook, so he still gets the most of any class. And how does the Sorcerer have more choices then the wizard?

On skills, though, you have a point. I'll take off Nature and Religion (sorcerer didn't study; I'd take off Arcana, too, but all arcane spellcasters need that).

If you want a more damaging incarnation check my thread.

I'm not a fan of controllers so I put it together.
