So the new monster stats came out increasing the monster's damage, but that can take a bit of time and prep work to apply them to all MM1 monsters. I like using MM1 some of them have good flavor and it's the only hard copy I have.

I was thinking of giving action points to standard monsters that were underpowered from MM1 instead of the messy damage upgrades. So far, play testing has been good and the players agree that MM1 monsters need beef (their characters are pretty close to optimized). Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or advice.

Seems like a very simple flexible add on, and probably balanced overall. It gives you as DM choices such as all the standard monsters using their AP on the same turn early in a fight - this is double-edged, more choices when you are running e.g. 5 monsters is not always what you want.

You are using more time per monster during the battle. Whereas if you up-rated the damage during prep, then you spend the extra time in advance and combat speed would be unaffected.
