But what if you Want just tackle that caster so he can't sling spells anymore and you can question him later? So here's my ideas:
Entering a Grapple is a standard action that can only be done while you are Grabbed or Grabbing someone else. Your character then enters the space of the Grapple target. Grappling involves contested Strength checks and you gain Combat Advantage over your opponent if you are a larger Size category than they are. The Grappling check occurs on the fastest Initiative count of characters involved in the Grapple. All other characters loose their action for the round. If you win the Grapple check, you can attack any target in range with a 1-Handed weapon, including Implements. 2-Handed weapons and Staffs, cannot be used effectively while in a Grapple. If your target is in the Grapple, you are concidered to have Combat Advantage. If your target is not involved in the Grapple, then you automatically loose your next Grapple check. Making Ranged attacks with an Implement does not provoke Opportunity Attacks while within a Grapple. If you win the Grapple check, you can also leave the grapple, shifting 1 square. If more than one character enters a Grapple against a single opponent, the effective "size" of that group increases by 1 [counting from the largest member]. If the size of that side is already more than their opponents, additional Grapplers cannot enter. Entering an existing Grapple is a Standard action and does not require a Grab. Each combatant rolls independently, and can only act if they exceed their opponent's Grapple check. If you succeed in a Grapple check you can also choose to let a specific Friendly out of the Grapple. Example:
A Dire Bear (large) initiates a Grapple with a Gnome: The Dire Bear Grabs the Gnome with it's Maul Feature, and then uses it's Action Point to Grapple in order to further stop the Gnome from resisting. The Gnome is lvl 10 with 12 Strength, has a +6 for Grapple checks, and the Bear has Combat Advantage (due to large size) for a total of +13 [23 Strength, lvl 11, +2]. On the Gnome's action next turn, the Gnome resists the Grapple rolling 17+6, and the Bear tries to maintain rolling 12+13. The Bear wins, and does it's unarmed damage [4d8+6 for Ursine Crush]. This counts as the Bear's full action for the round. The Gnome's friends want to try and stop the Bear so they enter the Grapple. A human with 22 Strength and a Halfling with 18 Strength, both level 10, enter. The Human's Strength check is at 11, and the Halfling at 9. The Human is Medium, and has two friendly Combatants in the Grapple, so that Side has an effective "size" of Huge, 1 more than the Bear, and the maximum size for the Grapple. This gives that entire Side Combat Advantage over the Bear. On the Gnome's turn in Initiative, all Grapplers act: Gnome: 2+8 =10 Human: 10+13 = 23 Halfling: 17+11 = 28 Dire Bear: 9+11 = 20 The Human and the Halfling both beat the Bear's Grapple check and can now take actions. The Human Uses Reckless Strike against the Bear with his Longsword to deal 3[W] Damage, and the Halfling allows the Gnome to escape thinking that he'd be more help outside of teh Grapple so the Gnome shifts to any adjacent square. The Bear and the Gnome cannot act this round because they did not beat the opposing side's Grapple checks. Next round, the Gnome shifts back and casts Eldrich Blast on the Bear. On the Bear's count, everyone rolls Grapple Checks, this time noone had Combat Advantage: Human: 5+11 =16 Halfling: 12+9 =21 Bear: 13+11 =24 And the Bear attacks the Human with Ursine Crush for 4d8 +6 while the Human and the Halfling both loose their turns. The Bear also has the option of Mauling the Gnome with it's Reach of 2. However, since it removed it's attention from the Human and the Halfling, they are considered to "win" the Grapple checks on their next round without rolling their Strength checks.

Wow, that took a lot more than i expected. It's the little things that always need more rules. |
