The Khuthik swarm had eliminated two cities, and was well on it's way to move onto the next city, when a brave pharoh and his army of mystics and soldiers moved into the Valley of Blood. For three days, they fought and discovered that not one but two hive lords were controlling the forces, so to divide their enemies, the Pharoh ordered that Ptah's seal be placed upon one, so that enough time could be made to take attack the other one. In the end, the Pharoh succeeded, although it would cost him half his forces protecting the ritualists in the heart of the valley walls. Later, after the death of the other Hive Lord, the decision was made that enough blood had been lost, and to keep the other Lord in the perfect stasis of Ptah's seal, and the sealed off the cavern that it inhabited, along with other servants that were in it's perfect crystals. A chamber was carved out of the rock, designed to maintain the seal, and to warn others not to go pass this way. The Valley of Blood, it was decided, offered too good an oppertunity for the priests, who were looking for a new way to protect the bodies of the dead, and the old hive got reformed into a new series of tombs. A full half of the tombs ended up being used for the soldiers who died in the battle, and the rest became tombs for high priests. The real purpose of the tomb was covered up in a unremarkable wall and left. Over the next three hundred years, the locals would steal treasure from the tombs, evading guards and guardians, but even then, not all the tombs were cleared. Moving to Modern Time, the old empire has crumbled, and two more have taken it's place. Currently, a isolastionistic governement now holds sway over the kingdom. With the discovery of a untouched tomb with moderate riches, a rush of adventures has started to flood the smaller country. At first, the nation was resistant, but as the pressures of protecting ancient sites was too much and too dangerous, adventuring licenses were issued and tax collectors started waiting at the enterances of the fortress towns. The path was left open for adventurers to come in. ... and the adventure just happens to start when a party of low level adventures goes to this well picked tomb group in the Heart of the Valley of Blood... and finds a crack in the brickwork that leads into a unknown and unmarked sealed area... |
