| #2edwin_suDec 21, 2011 6:13:54 | Piano Man Billy Joel this is a location. lyric: Now John at the bar is a friend of mine He gets me my drinks for free And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke **** But there's some place that he'd rather be He says, "Bill, I believe this is killing me." As his smile ran away from his face "Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star If I could get out of this place" in game: the bar man called John dreamt of being a bard and maybe even performing at the kings court before becoming a barman. Lyric Now Paul is a real estate novelist Who never had time for a wife in game: paul is a realestate agent often found in the bar is the players are intrested in buying a building in the city they should talk to him. lyric: And he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the Navy And probably will be for life in game: Davy is a man of the city watch insider information on what is going on with the watch in the city can be gotten trouh him. lyric: And the waitress is practicing politics in game: she is actualy a member of the tieves guild, using her contacts at the bar to gather information. lyric: As the businessman slowly gets stoned Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness But it's better than drinkin' alone in game: the waitres also sells a herbal narcotic, the codeword for ordering a herb bundel is to order a drink called loneliness ( and yes it is strong stuff so better then drinking alone) |

Watch, i can flash across the sky A lightning bolt from up on high And i can crash into myself For PCs to discover The speaker in this lyric is identifying himself to readers. Kord, lord of storms, refers to himself for readers to understand the speaker. |

| #5ZappyDec 21, 2011 10:22:51 | You've already mentioned Billy Joel. I always thought his River of Dreams would make a good adventure. My favorite band Genesis has tons of awesome story songs. I just haven't gotten antything specific yet. Though I am looking at Supper's Ready. |

| #7guest60718002Dec 27, 2011 15:07:06 | I did a whole adventure arc based on The Decembrist song "Shangkill Butchers". www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLY0HNds_tE I actually used the song in the game. When the players arrived in this new region, the local townsfolk had a legend about the Shangkill Butchers (whose name I changed for the game). There is a line that goes "will blow your ribbons from your curls" and that was how I hooked them into the story. One of the NPC's daughters went missing one night and all that was left was the strange ribbons left on the side walk. It ultimately ended up being an evil kobold who had obtained a powerful set of song scrolls. The scrolls allowed him and his gang to slowly turn kidnapped victims to his side. Well, that’s the simplified version at least. There was a great scene with the players walking through cells of this dungeon as all of the 'inmates" were mindlessly droning the lyrics to the song. Creep-ed everyone out, until they met the scrawny kobold bard... |

Ditto The Wall. Metallica's Enter Sandman might make a good villian - somebody who appears in dreams. When he goes after the PCs, they don't get their extended rests. Sure he's just an at-level Elite, but they don't have ANY dailies left when they get to him. P.S. He does not kill his victims - he's got something even creepier in mind. Roxette's Listen to Your Heart - Diplomacy check to prevent a breakup (maybe because the divorce carries nasty political complications?). Genesis' Home by the Sea would work as a very large trap: if the PCs go in this haunted house, they have until daylight to figure out the curse and escape. For variety, run an all-night session and use IRL sunrise! If you have a DMPC who needs to leave the game (because the PCs can carry the load by themselves now), the new song I'm on the Edge of Glory would be good background music as he goes down gloriously, taking many of the enemy with him. |
| #9AnsbachDec 30, 2011 4:48:39 | I actually made an adventure around a song once - best song ever for this idea I always thought. Shriekback - Nemesis. Old School 1985 English Rock/New Wave/Goth/Dance track, pretty awesome. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiOh84bLrmc Too many D&D ideas to even cover in a decent lengthed post: priests, undead, lizard men, black dragon, canibals, centaurs, monkeys, cults, dinosaurs - all kinds of crazy D&D stuff going on in that song!
