| #2thewhateverslayerAug 20, 2008 18:09:52 | If you have viewed any of the threads I have posted some may ask why start with my Pantheon and NPC's? Simple realy I believe these are the meat to any campaign setting. The Lore of the land is based on these 2 elements more then any other. Land mass is fundamental but easily adapted. Also let me add this is more then just a new campaign setting, I have worked on this for over 10 years. I have hundreds of maps, books of information, and am now trying to finalize the completion of my world before WotC changes to 4.5E of 5E. I wasted over a year converting 3rd ed. FAQs or what I think may be FAQs 1. Do I plan on publishing my campaign setting? A. I would like to but understand that the market is flooded with great settings and may never be able too. Yet I have created my world with as much originality as possible in hopes that if I get "LUCKY" enough to have that oppotunity that I will be able too. 2. What is my influences. A. All the greats Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, This site, Dungeon, and Dragon Magazines. Who can not say that History is a great influence as well. The Roman Empire, Greek and Norse mythology, Stories of King Arthur, William Shakespear, Terry Goodkind, Anne Rice and the list goes on. 3. Do I think my world is better then some of the greats already produced? A. Of course I do it's mine! Now I can not take away what they have accomplished nor even say that my statement is even true. But I like to think so....... 4. What do I think makes my campaign better? A. A strong connection between reality and fantasy for one. Roots to what the game is supposed to be, I started with the title "Dungeons & Dragons". Those are key elements in Aeroya. Just enough to stay true to the game but not making that the sole focus. I think now everyone is thinking "who cares"? Well I do, and to me and my gamers thats all that matters. In time though I hope you will appreciate my work as well. Thanks for viewing my threads! |
| #3krichaiushiiAug 28, 2008 12:24:16 | There are some good discussions on religion-building here in the forums, be sure to read up on them. If my connection holds up, I might edit in some links. Anyhow, what is your plan for your pantheon? One pantheon worshipped by all races, each race having its own deity(ies), multiple pantheons among each race (like the Greek and Norse pantheons existing at roughly the same time in different parts of the world), these are all options. How is your pantheon related? All one big family? Disparate beings? A bit of both? How does it interact with your world? Only through mortal agents, or do your deities walk among the races? Balance of the deities. Is there a plan, for example one deity for each alignment combination? Or is there just a random mix that uses most domains? How large is that pantheon, anyway? For what it is worth, I am sitting at 12 deities, with the hook being each has a Neutral component to their alignment. I took a general concept for each one, then hung domains on the concept. From the domains come the general titles that each deity has, as well as basic behaviors for their priests. I have yet to come up with proper names for them. For example, my CN goddess of luck provides her clerics with the options of Chaos, Charm, Luck, and Trickery for domains. She has shrines in many gambling halls, with the occasional gambling hall/temple being operated solely by her clerics. CG clerics of Lady Luck gamble fairly, play harmless pranks, participate in games that do not harm people, and may offer services if you beat them in a game. CE clerics of Lady Luck cheat to win; prefer pranks ending in lasting embarrassment, destruction, or shame; host vicious games like Three Vials - a slave or captive is given three glass vials, each filled with a clear liquid. Two vials contain acid, one contains water. Onlookers bet on whether the drinker lives or dies. CN clerics of Lady Luck take whatever seems the best option (cheating rich-looking people, playing fair with those who appear poor), while often betting on outrageous things (I bet you 100GP that a woman in a red dress walks through that door... NOW.) All of these clerics support carnivals, parties, and other rowdy crowd locations. Most of her clerics tend toward wearing bright mix of colors - not necessarily matching. Thieves' Guilds and bandit gangs often contain members of these priesthoods - after all, what better game than matching your wits against potential death, all for a bit of shiny gold? Without alignment detecting spells (did I mention there are few in my world), life is interesting with clerics in my pantheon. |
