Undead
Average Height: As selected race
Average Weight: As selected race

Ability Scores: +2 Con, +2 Cha
Size: As selected race
Speed: 6
Vision
: Darkvision

Languages
: Common
Skill Bonuses: +2 Intimidate, +2 Stealth
Once Was I: Select one other race. Your average height, average weight, and size are determined by your selection. Also, you qualify as that race for the purpose of qualifying for feats. Other than those listed here, you gain no other benefits based upon your choice.
Undead Resistances: You gain resist necrotic equal to 5+ one half your level. Also, you do not need to eat or breath, and you may take the better of your roll or 10 on death saving rolls.
Undead Toughness: You can use undead toughness as an encounter power

Undead Toughness Undead Racial Power

Encounter
Immediate Reaction Personal
Trigger: You take damage from an attack.
Effect: You gain resist damage 5+ one half your level against the attack.

I’m not sure about the balance of this. I might change darkvision to lowlight for balance if people think its overpowered. The reason for +2 stealth is the idea from all those horror movies where the undead ambush them, and cause it fit my idea of a stealthy, scary monster. Any other suggestions will be considered.

Oh, and a feat

Heroic Tier

Skills From Past Life
Prerequisites: Undead race, Once Was I
Effect: You gain a bonus based upon the race you selected with Once Was I.
Dragonborn: You add one-half your constitution modifier to your healing surge value.
Dwarf: Once per day, you may use your second wind as a minor action instead of a standard.
Eladrin: You gain +1 to your Will defense.
Elf: You ignore difficult terrain when you shift (but only one square per round)
Half-Elf: You grant allies within 10 squares a +1 racial bonus to diplomacy checks.
Halfling: You gain a +1 racial bonus to AC against opportunity attacks.
Human: +1 to two non-AC defenses of your choice.
Teifling: You gain resist fire 3+ one half your level.

Once Was I isn't exactly balanced. Unless someone really wants those Dwarf feats, no one will pick the Dwarf because of the speed handicap (even if they plan on wearing heavy armor, they won't get the ability actual dwarves do where heavy armor doesn't slow you down any further). Also, since you don't get any other benefits of the race you chose, it's not clear what happens with Half-Elves; do they still get to choose from Human and Elf feats, or just Half-Elf feats (since they technically don't get Dual Heritage)?

Power of death steps on the human's toes too much. Right now humans are the only race that get a bonus at-will. Not only are you allowing undead this opportunity, but you're making them even more versatile by allowing them to sacrifice it for a nice encounter power!

EDIT: Also Undead Toughness should be a free action, since it's triggered. Should also be listed as an immediate interrupt.

fixed and weakened Undead Toughness, and removed Memories from Life

made speed a flat 6

I am going to reenter Memories from Life as a paragon feat, but make it hard to get through prerequisites(not sure how tho)

Take 10 on a death save? How is that any fun knowing an enemy has come over and wail on you til you die from HP loss for a character to have any chance of "dying". This takes away the suspense and danger in dropping below 0 HP unless your DM is overly zealous with maiming the unconscious.

Yet it's okay, becuase Warforged get to take the better of their death roll or 10.

I don't see any serious balance issues, but I'm pretty tired. I'll take another look later after I get some sleep.

Now that I'm awake and looking, it seems relatively balanced, but for one thing. The racial power need to be an Immediate Interrupt to work, otherwise you get the resistance after the attack.

Undead Resistances: You gain resist necrotic equal to 5+ one half your level. Also, you do not need to eat or breath, and you may take the better of your roll or 10 on death saving rolls.

This could be broken into two attributes, one fore the necrotic resistance and one for the breathing. Then I would change it to

You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe, but this doesn’t render you immune to any combat effect.

actually... looking at teh warforged entry, I would make a new attribute

Living Dead
✦ You gain a +2 bonus to saving throws against ongoing damage.
✦ You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe, but this doesn’t render you immune to any combat effect.
✦ Rather than sleep, living dead spend 4 hours refraining from any strenuous activity. You need to spend 4 hours in this state to gain the same benefits other races gain from taking a 6-hour extended rest. While resting in this low-exertion
state, you are fully aware of your surroundings
and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
✦ When reduced to 0 hit points, you are less likely to die. When you make a death saving throw, you can take the better of your die roll or 10. You still die at the normal negative hit point total.
