I made these races up when we had nothing better to do in class, please help me. I will list 2 powers for the Anurac, so please tell me what you like better. I got the idea from Chrono Trigger (the frog knight) and desided to make a DnD verson (with my own twists.) If you have anything that you feel will ferther the development of this race, please say what you think will help.

Anurac

Not mine, found it with Google.

(the Order name for Frog from Biology listings. Also, think Crono Trigger for this race.)

A highly intelligent amphibious race that has adapted to spend long periods of time above land.

dex I get, but why int?

he always struck me as a wisdom character.

also it's an odd at will, it does funny things as soon as his jump exceeds his move.  Fine for encounter.

And the tongue lash should NOT be a standard action.

Okay, I was doing Intelligents because they are a "Highly intelligent amphibious race" Wisdom is okay, but I don't want it to be exactly like Chrono Trigger. -edit- And I wanted this races favorite classes to be Sword Mage, Wizard, and one over Int/Dex or Str based class (I was thinking of Homebrewing an Honor power set with a Knight.).

As for the Great Leap, I was thinking that... maybe I should just take away the "Move farther then your normal movment."? I think that would be best.

What do you think Tounge lash should be, Minor maybe?

Updated:

* Boundless Loyalty now only grants +5 to Domination

* Tounge Lash now is a Minor Action and Grapples

* Giant Leap cannot excead your movement now

* Vison is Low Light (they lived in merky waters once)

* 2 new Heroic Tier feats.

To Do:

* Decide on either Gaint Leap At-Will or Tounge Lash Encounter

* Comments/Advice for this Race.

-Aquatic Adaptation: As an amphibious creature, you can breath underwater as if it were air. In addition, you are considered an Aquatic creature for the purpose of effects that relate to creature origin.

"Aquatic" is not a creature origin.

-Boundless Loyalty: You gain a +1 racial modifier to Will defense. In addition, you gain a +5 racial bonus to saving throws against Domination effects.

Two problems with this:

1) Racial defense bonuses are typically reserved for races with both of their ability score bonuses going towards the same defense. However, your race does this really weird thing where whether the ability scores apply to the same defense or not is a 50-50 choice. I would just be aware that this bonus is not completely misplaced but should be given a bit more careful thought to, because I swear I see racial defense bonuses flying around everywhere on homebrew races. It tends to be just a product of unoriginality, and it's just plain boring and lazy when it's not required.

2) There's no such thing as a "domination effect". "Domination" is not an effect keyword. "Dominated" is a condition. The way you want this effect to be worded to do what you want it to do is to having it grant a bonus again "effects causing you to be dominated" or something similar.

-Giant Leap*: You can use Giant Leap as an At-will power.

Giant Leap            Racial At-will Power
You can jump great distances, father then most other races.
At-Will
Move Action            Personal

Effect: Make an Athletics roll to jump as if you had a running start.

I'm confused as to why this is a power. Just roll this up into "Frog Legs":
When you roll an Athletics check to jump or swim, you can roll two d20's and use the better result. When you make an Athletics check to jump, make it as though you had a running start.

-Tounge Lash**: You can use the Tounge Lash as an Encounter Power.

Tounge Lash            Encounter Power
You lash out your tounge, rapping it around an Ally to pull the out of trouble, or a Enemy to pull them into trouble.
Minor Action            Range: 5
Target: One Creature
Attack: Strength+2, Constitution+2, or Dexterity+2 vs. AC (or reflex?)
Hit: 1d6 Damage and the target is pulled to an agacent square and grappled by you. If the target was an Ally, then they are not grappled and take no damage.

Special: Incease the bonus to attack to +4 at 11th level and +6 at 21st level. This attack does nothing if there is no open square agacent to you.

A lot of issues:

A) It's "Ability+2 vs Defense (+4, +6)" for non-AC defenses. It's "Ability +4 vs AC (+6, +8)". This is to emulate the proficiency bonus that attacks versus AC are assumed to have but impossible to have in this case because the power does not have the weapon keyword.

B) This is very powerful. Range of 5, pulls a target 4 squares, automatically grapples them, and does damage? Yeah, this is definitely pushing the limits for what's generally considered a balanced power. If all the power did was pull an enemy within range 5 to an adjacent square, I'd still question whether or not it was balanced.

C) It has a very limited function when it comes to class and party role, which violates the design principle in 4E that every race should be able to perform reasonably as a member of any class and that therefore races should not get features or powers that are only useful to select classes or roles. This power, for instance, is awesome for melee characters but almost completely useless to ranged characters, who have no desire to have their enemies get any closer than they already are. I don't see any reason, for instance, that a Warlock would ever want to use this power; it would be counterproductive for its class and party role as a mobile, ranged character.

Like Crimson, I think the "+2 Dexterity or +2 Strength" and "+1 racial modifier to Will defense" is problematic.  I would probably just go with +2 Dex which would need the +1 Will defense since Dex and Int are the same defense.  (I'd also lean towards +2 Wis instead of +2 Int but you already explained that you didn't want to do that.)

I'm not too keen on the Poisonous Skin.  I think it should really be an attack against Fortitude before the poison damage.  Unfortunately that leads to the qeustion of should it be a free new power or require replacing a class power.  I don't really know what a good fix is.

As a racial power I don't think Giant Leap is that great (althought I haven't looked at the jumping rules so maybe it is better than I think).  Rolling it into Crimson suggested doesn't seem unreasonable.

I'm also inclined to agree with his opinion on Tougue Lash.

Still not sure what would be a good racial power fix/replacement.  (Although I did think it would be funny to have an at-will that polymorph the character for an hour after a kiss playing off the prince transformed to toad story.)

I am sorry, I was just going with frogs... And the more I think about it, the more I feel that it SHOULD be wisdom, seeing as they are basicly a Eladrin clone right now the more I look at it.

Also, would you mind me asking, what do YOU feel would be a good racial power for a frog? I just need some help with this, seeing as Tounge Lash is both OPed and has a Narrow class scope. I just can't think of anything good for them other then those two.

The Frog Legs, I think I will change to fit what you say about it, I think I like that better, donno why I didn't think of it (guess I am just stupid).

Also, for Aquatic, I was going for them not takeing the -2 to attack while under water. You know how to word that guys?

Yay, Frog!

Racial Traits

-Average Height: 3' 9" - 4' 6"
-Average Weight: 80 lb. to 110 lb.

-Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity or +2 Strength, +2 Wisdom

Why is everyone so worked up about this, or so it seems? The Changeling did this fine.

-Size:
Small

Really? I thought Frog was Medium... Nothing wrong with short people though.

-Speed:
6
-Vision: Low Light

-Language: Common, and Choice of one other.
-Skill Bonuses: +2 Athletics, +2 Thievery

No problems so far.

-Aquatic Adaptation: As an amphibious creature, you can breath underwater as if it were air. In addition, you are considered an Aquatic creature for the purpose of effects that relate to creature origin.

Proper wording: "In addition, you gain the Aquatic keyword."

-Frog Legs:
When you roll an Athletics check to jump of swim, you can roll two d20's and use the better result. If you make an Athletics check to jump, make the roll as if you had a running start.
-Boundless Loyalty: In addition, you gain a +5 racial bonus to saving throws against Dominated effects.

Nothing screamingly bad. In other words, no problems here.

-Tounge Lash:
You can use the Tounge Lash as an Encounter Power.

1. I'd go for Reflex.

2. That means the bonuses stay the same.

3. Also, I learned this a long time ago, and just now remembered: The Dragonborn's Dragon Breath is notable here. You see, its attack stats only include ONE of the stats Dragonborn have a bonus to. In addition, its damage stat is Con, and the Dragonborn doesn't receive a bonus to it. Remember this for future reference.

4. The damage should scale by level. "Constitution modifier damage", for example.

5. Although, I don't think it should do damage at all.

6. I like a Slide effect, so that it's good for ranged classes.

7. Also, you could make grabbing optional.

8. Heck, I'll post what I like best:

Tounge Lash            Encounter Power
You lash out your tongue, wrapping it around an ally to pull him out of trouble, or an enemy to pull it into trouble.
Minor Action            Ranged 5
Target: One Creature
Attack: Strength + 2, Constitution + 2, or Dexterity + 2 vs. Reflex
Hit: You slide the target 4 squares. You can choose to grab the target if the target ends the slide in a square adjacent to you.
Special: Incease the bonus to attack to +4 at 11th level and +6 at 21st level.

Slimy Skin
Racial Feat

Heroic Feat
Requirments: Anurac
Benefits: Gain a +5 Racial bonus to escape Grapples.
Special: You cannot take this if you have the Poisonus Skin Feat.

Grapples do not exist in 4E, but Grabs do. "Gain a +5 racial bonus to escape a grab." Also, check for other feats that grant bonuses to escape grabs. See if this one is balanced in comparison.

Poisonus Skin
Racial Feat

Heroic Feat
Requirments: Anurac
Benefits: Once an encounter, when something grapples you, it takes 5 Poison Damage.
Special: You cannot take this if you have the Slimy Skin Feat.

When something grabs you? How about restricting it to creatures? Also, the poison damage doesn't scale by level. Mebbey, change it into "poison damage equal to your Strength or Dexterity modifier, whichever is higher."?

AND FINALLY,

Although I like the race both mechanically and flavor-wise, you need to spell-check, grammar-check, and formatting-check this. That's the #1 thing I look for in other peoples' homebrews: Does it look like WotC made it?

This race is rated 9/10 on the JB Homebrew scale, I'd say.

Thanks man for the help (I might take out the feats though, until I find a ay to blanace them until then.)

As for the Grammer check, I don't have word at home, and I can almost never open then up in school, so I do the best I can on my own, sorry about that. bu thanks a bunch for the help one my race, it will go a long way. As for small, eailer I asked it I should make it medium, but no one said anything about it, so I assumed no one thought it was a bad Idea. Up to medium it goes.

Thanks for the Help.

Why is everyone so worked up about this, or so it seems? The Changeling did this fine.

Stupid browser screwed up an lost the post I was typing.  So here is a short version.  If a race has two bonus abilities that affect the same defense, they get a +1 to another defense.  Changeling has +2 Dex or +2 Int which affect the same defense which means they always have bonuses to abilties that affect different defense.  The original Anurac has +2 Dex or +2 Str, +2 Int.  If you picked +2 Dex and +2 Int you would be down one defense unless the race had a bonus.  However if the race had a bonus it would advantageous to pick +2 Str and +2 Int as you get even more defense.  This doesn't matter anymore as he changed the +2 Int to +2 Wis so he always affects two different defenses.

BTW, anyone else have anything to crit on this race? I just wanna know, since I like makeing races, and this will be the first race that I have finished. Maybe after this, I will post my Blade Elf.
