Saw that we have Gamma World coming but not sure I want to wait for it, or if I want to use it since it's kinda campy. Was going to just glue some high fantasy onto the recovery from nuclear war. But... any ideas on how to manage firearms? |

The book is centered around a campaign world where magic and technology both exist. You could strip out the campaign-specific stuff and just use the rules for your own campaign. In the campaign world magic interferes with technology, but you can toss out that rule if it doesn't work for your campaign. The Bastions in the book might even fit your world with the concept of a post-apocalyptic world. There are only 4 modern classes, but they can be mixed with fantasy classes so you should still have enough to make a decent tech-based campaign. |

Looks like someone finally made a tabletop version of Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura. Any idea how this would adapt to a swashbuckling campaign - limiting technology to age of sail levels with black powder weapons. I'd like to use it for a 50 Fathoms (Savage Worlds) game. |

I never heard of the game until last year. Upon research, I discovered distinct variations in the setting...that being said, I mind that one less than the Shadowrun comparison. At least Arcanum bears a resemblance. ![]() To answer your question, the last chapter (The Appendix) deals with adapting Amethyst into different settings. These include high-tech games, low tech games, and games with a more saturated mix of fantasy and technology (where Amethyst keeps them separate). Some of my favorite homebrews I've heard about have been fantasy westerns and space operas. |
