I did not like the MC feats recently until finding out how truly balanced, interesting and simply amazing they are. I know that someone has have to have made some MC-only classes! The reason I ask are twofold: Pure Interest and Balance reasons. I will most likely not allow (for the time) homebrewed full classes into the game because I feel the balancing and adjustment of a full 30 level class with feats, paragons, etc is both difficult and time consuming. I know that even know there are likely some that are well done, but for the most part there are amazing ideas out there that are as of yet incomplete. MC-only classes seem much easier to balance since they have less powers and abilities. I'd like to test out a few and suggest them to my players. So, after a long-winded introduction: Anyone know of or have homebrewed MC-only classes? |

I guess the question is, what kind of "classes" work as multiclass only? Spellscared is neat, because it's an infusion of magic that can happen to anyone, no matter who they are. I also heard somewhere that Martial Power will include a Weaponmaster multi-class only system. But what other things could we add? Initially, I can think of something like a Draconic, Astral, Demonic (etc) heritage multi-class only system (the powers of which represent abilities gained by embracing your heritage) but you could probably just reflavour the Spellscared stuff for something like that. |

So you could have half-dragon, half-demon, half-celestial, etc. It may be a reflavoring of Spellscarred stuff, but there's room for distinction. On a divergent bent, you could also make Paragon classes per 3.5 Unearthed Arcana (probably renamed so as not to be confused with 4E paragon tier). The classes were race specific and gave powers and abilities that were keyed towards a racial ideal. It's an interesting idea, I might decide to work on them a bit. |

| #5cunning_kindredOct 31, 2008 18:28:51 | I don't have anything finished but I'm working on three different MC-only options. The simplest - in that its closest to the Spellscarred - is the Chaos Mutant which you find in my Chaos Magic adaption. The second is the Warden class - actually my first 4E work. You can find this here. I'm going to be doing a massive overhaul of the Warden class soon though and it might diverge from the typical MC-only template once I'm done. The third is my adaptation of the Binder class. You can find this is herebut you will also need to look at the rituals here. This one diverges heavily because the Binder multiclass option is the specialist with the rituals that bind the vestiges being available to anyone with the Ritual Caster feat. There was an adaptation Rampant was working on for bloodlines. You can find the draconic work here. On a related note, though, I would have to say I don't agree with your idea that MC-only classes are easier to balance or design. In fact, my one attempt at a fall class was far easier than any of my MC-only classes. You still have to do almost all the same work you do with a normal class. Still, what they do let you do is create rules for things that are not really fleshed out enough to be a whole class - and that does make them wonderfully versatile. |
| #6greatfritoOct 31, 2008 19:04:17 | I've considered the mechanic for a 4th Edition Wilder "class" (Psionics), but I've mostly abandoned it as both thematically awkward, and a bit beyond what I should be working on (which is to say, my full classes aren't done yet, so why move on to half-classes yet?) |
| #7mkillOct 31, 2008 23:22:52 | I'd love the idea of a divine / angelic themed multiclass-class. That said, I don't agree that this type of class is easier to write. Sure, you don't have to design some 80 powers, only around 20. But it's much harder to make sure your classes are balanced: As the class is pretty much made for cherry-picking, you have to pay close attention how it works with sneak attacks, fighters marking everyone in the attack area, boosting utilities etc. etc. etc. Another issue is roles: a single class can be optimized as defender, striker, leader or controller, but a multiclass? Do you try to appeal to everyone or do you put powers of a certain type in? |

| #9archangel70Nov 02, 2008 20:32:06 | A third-party company is selling a great multi-class only class called the Noble on RPGNow.com. It is well worth the few dollars that it costs. |
