It looks interesting, but are you going to focus only on D&D and D20 stuff, or can systems that stand pretty much on their own wander in? Indies and whatnot, not necessarily OS D&D clones.

Yeah, we'll write about pretty much anything. We are open and don't discriminate, although if the system is not really really popular we probably won't give it a lot of space.

That's fair. I'm writing a supplement for Jessup Games' "Magpie Codex 2". Maybe when I get it done I could send you a small article about it in hopes of drawing attention to my game and to the Magpie System, which is a busy gamer's dream come true, in my opinion. Character creation in 5 minutes or less, balanced monster/race/class/spells creation on the fly, and as my husband likes to joke, "Look! They actually use the d12 for something significant!" Hopefully it would be a good enough article. If not, well, I've had rejection slips before!Smile

Sounds good. Send it on over when you are done, just don't post it on the forums as WotC would then own it.

Phew, just got through with it. Here it goes:

First, I'm impressed, and I mean impressed. That is huge for a netzine - in fact, I'm afraid it is a bit too huge. Point in case, I would maybe suggest to make this into two issues? Brings out the more important articles better. Second, it doesn't seem specifically organized - or at least, I didn't notice. Especially in a work of this size, that's not good. Perhaps organize it by game systems? I already partly is, but maybe make it clear in the table of contents? Finally (though I doubt that has much to do with you), while I admire his creative energy, I find yellowindgo's prose to be somewhat confusing.

On a side note, do you do Dark Heresy? I've written two articles for that some time ago on Dark Reign, and I'd be happy to submit them. They're both fairly short and crunchy - let me know if you're interested. Still, great work, and I look forward to the next issue - especially once the submitters diversify, making for a broader range of articles.

I checked it out and I really enjoyed it.

I thought it was a bit long too, but I am not complaining! A slightly different layout could reduce the page count by 20-30 pages maybe. But yeah, I like it.

We don't do Dark Heresy. If you still have rights to distribute the articles (I'd contact Dark Heresy to make sure), we'd love to have them. You can send them to use at my email lokiare1 at hotmail.com. Please don't post them on this forum though because once you do that we can't use them. Also can I quote your response for the next issue?

Well, the articles are mine, and Dark Reign is a purely fan-made community, so FFG has nothing whatsoever to do with them. I'll send them to you at once.

While I'm not sure what's so quotable about my last post, sure, go ahead.

I was wondering if I could get a few of the people that enjoyed the content in Friar's Almanac to go back and rate and possibly review it. Apparently a couple of individuals went and instead of posting actual factual reviews decided to post trashy reviews that didn't comment on the content, but rather insulted the magazine without stating why. We are fine with honest negative reviews, but these reviews are just plain bad, as nothing is actually said about the magazine itself.

Looks to be a review that isn't favorable to you on there, quite lengthy even. No I didn't write it, though I do agree with the reviewers accessment

They reviewed it negatively not because of the content. They did it because of an argument in another thread. Which to me is extremely childish.

And ranting about the ToU is the height of maturity?

As I said I read the reviewer's review, read through the e-zine and agree with his review.  I see no need to copypaste his review again.   Unless you want more negative reviews?  Personally I found the maturity level of the writing to be immature.  It felt as if it was written by 14yrolds.

Perhaps it is not the best idea to alienate lots of potential fans with an inflammatory posting style.  And having read the product in question, I too cannot find any fault with the negative reviews.

Okay, here's an honest review:

The large, low-resolution advertising stand-ins on every page turned me off. I also found the font hard to read, and frustrating at such a large size, so there's so little content on every page. I'd have to print off many, many pages of material to bring with me to one session.

The content itself had some childish bits (a villain named Seph-ir-oth?), and was generally of minimal interest to me personally. For example, the adventure ideas were too vague for me to do anything with, and there are plenty of sites online where one can find adventure ideas. Also quite a lot of editing problems; I found a handful of typos in one paragraph (the top of page 92).

This could be a nice magazine, if quality control were tighter and it were presented more effectively.  Right now, the content is not as good as I can get elsewhere for free (like Roleplaying Tips Weekly).

Best of luck, though!

Thank you for the honest review. I appreciate this much more than the bad reviews posted on the drive thru rpg site. I'm always open to constructive criticism, but not to outright trolling.
