| #1divinephilosopherNov 06, 2008 21:00:38 | My PCs have been playing for some time, and they are about finally hit epic level. I really didn't know where to go with them, though, until now. They seemed far too powerful for the standard kind of D&D adventure.
We'll, I emerged from a drunken stupor to discover that I had written this in an attempt to write the most ridiculously over-the-top epic campaign story line ever. I have no idea where I'm going to go with it, though.
You are among the hardest of asses. As either grand warrior of the Pantheon of the Moon or a powerful mercenary employed by the black church, you played a vital role near the thousand years war. Though your deeds are not uniformly unforgivable, fighting in the name of sin has tainted your soul somewhat extensively. Due to your power and rank, you were on the frontlines in the Battle of Altar, as your allies sundered apart the universe to summon your god’s greatest weapon.
Growing continually more frustrated with the stalemate that had lasted for the better half of a millennium, the High Priests and Archmages of the Moon delved deeper into arcane lore that had long been shielded from mortal eyes. They discovered an ancient account of a king who, like your allies, had become frustrated with an eternal stalemate. He announced to the world that an individual who could turn the tide of the war in his favor would be given anything they desired.
A young wizard driven mad by the study of things better left to be forgotten approached the king with an offer. In exchange for his newborn daughter’s hand marriage, he would bring into this world under the king’s command a monster so unbelievably powerful that the gods themselves would weep in fear.
Both intrigued and desperate, the king agreed to the wizard’s proposal. The wizard spent all of his time in secluded study, growing more insane with each passing day. By the time he finally emerged from his quarters, he was hardly recognizable as the man who had entered. Sixteen years had passed, and the war had already been won.
When the wizard again confronted the king, it was revealed that his daughter, who was now a beautiful young woman, was to be married to the prince of the kingdom that he for so long warred against. Their union would usher in a new age of peace for the world.
The wizard would not have any of it. With a mere wave of his hand he slew the king and brought into the world six monstrous servants, which would aid him in the ritual. On a black altar, he sacrificed the young princess and used her blood to fuel his magic. The wizard’s body was consumed in a blast that blackened the sky, rotted crops, and salted the earth for hundreds of miles. From his ashes emerged his monstrous soul, which took on the corporeal form of the destroyer.
The account ended there, so how the destroyer met his demise remains unknown, but your priests had developed a greatly improved ritual based on the young wizards notes. Fueled by a drop of blood from each of the fourteen deities of the moon, this ritual would bring the enslaved destroyer momentarily back into the mortal realm, just long enough to slay the fourteen deities of the sun before being banished once again.
Even your gods could not enslave the destroyer, however, and your body was quickly ripped asunder by immense flow of energy that emerged from the rift. That, however, does not mean that you still don’t live on…
