Have a few encounters along the way, fight in one on one or team matches were the enemies are organized combatants instead of the dumb mosters in the dungeon, tower ect. What do you think I could do to improve this? |

They could be slaves, fighting for freedom. They exchange several owners, some cruel and some kind, before they become the people's champions. From here they might be freed or conscripted into the army. The fighting could be in the honor of a vague god that only this country venerates, and the party learns that the god was an invention to maitain power and control, or that the god gave a blessing to his followers that lead his worship, and the high priests keep the god's death a secret so that they can continue to reap the reward of the blessing. They could fight for an artifact that is being offered by the monarch. It might be something that rightfully belongs to the party or one of its members, or something they need to help keep the world from ending. They could be fighting so that they can get close to the unapproachable king/advisor that only shows himself at the Grand fight. In terms of keeping the actual fighting exciting, the arena has to have an interactive enviornment or a dangerous one. If ready-to-topple pillars or a blazing fire pit keep the party on its toes, all the better. Hope this helps |
