this is my assassin class. what i have done is made it the shadow power surce. took the avanger attack powers and the warlock utility powers and changed them a little and gave the class some nasty features. i need some feedback on what i have done so far and for people to tell me what i mite need to change. one thing is i am keeping it shadow unless you tell me a very good reason why i should change it. and if anyone wants to use this but complains about their being no feats yet just use rouge feats for now. hope it is good

Just an idea, for the weapon proficiencies, you might want to specify what kind of light blades, slings, crossbows and bows the assassin can use (simple, military, superior), unless you want it to use them all then i think its fine as written though possibly unbalanced seeing as you get the katar, rapier, great bow (AV), superior crossbow (AV) all at level 1.

The backstab feature needs some work, perhaps a re-think to get the same "feel" but with different mechanics.

It is possible for a lucky hit at low levels (even level 1, with a little optimisation) to do 9W+Dex mod damage . . . and half damage on a miss too - phew!

Limiting use to Dex mod per day has little practical purpose, since Dex is the prime stat, and it is a once-per-encounter power, the limitation will almost never apply, and is not really worth tracking.

good point any sugestions on how i can fix it. i think if i just make it only hafl the dex and raise the skill result it might work

It might. I'd suggest you look for some other ideas that give the assassin "striker power" without needing the extra die roll, or being quite so variable.

I understand you want to give the Assassin the chance of one huge hit per combat, compared to say the Rogue who gets roughly 50% large hits per combat with Sneak Attack.

However, as a class feature it is not that satisfying (to me). The assassin will get to do its trademark power once near the start of the encounter, and then have to go onto its list of At-will and Encounter powers, becaoming pretty poor at being a Striker after the initial nova. All that the skill roll lookup table does is randomise the effect some more, making this once-per-encounter blast very unreliable in practice (or over-powered if you make it too easy).

Something that be used along with the At-wills and Encounter powers would be more fun IMO.

Some ideas:

Make using the feature a Minor action, that works along with or sets up almost any other power.

Avoid making it "super" so that you have to restrict it's use to an Encounter power.

Perhaps a higher chance of critical or simply extra damage?

E.g.

"Marked for Death"

Minor action.

Select a target. The assassin may change targets at any time by expending a minor action.

Special: The Assassin must have combat advantage against the target to gain the effect. Combat advantage is not required to select a target.

Effect: The Assassin scores a critical hit against the chosen target on 18,19,20, and scores half damage on a miss (with no other effects from the power applying - i.e. no conditions), unless the power has a specific "miss" listing.

. . . assuming a target that the assassin will hit with a rapier for 11+, using an unoptimised At-will the expected damage without this ability might be be 0.45 * (4.5 + 4) + 0.05 * (8+4+4.5) = 4.65. With the ability it scales up to 0.5 * ( 2.25 + 2) + 0.35 * (4.5 +4) + 0.15 * (8+4+4.5) = 7.6.

Compare the Rogue's expected output (because both need combat advantage) = 7.9 . . . the rogue is a tiny bit better, however the Assassin gets to play more with crit effects, and the damage boost is higher going through the encounter powers.

I have not analysed my version for being "broken" in combination with other abilities. Also, I probably haven't worded it in the best way to combine with otehr effects that improve chances of criticals. However, I hope you can see the kind of thing I am suggesting.

Personally, I feel garrote is another prof they should have. Through out the ages of assassins; garrotes (even as simple as plastic bags), blades and percision ranged weapons have almost always been used.

course to me, the Katar is also hands down the assassins "dagger"

i think katar goes under light blades anyway so i do not have to list it and for supeire weapons im puting feats for the assassin to gain access to them soon

Very cool. I was making an assassin myself, but stopped just because I lost intrest. Of course I was using a sort of ninja format with black eggs and posion darts. I really like this one better, but i'm confused about the sneak attack....

its gunna be changed anyway but the point of that one is you make an attack roll to hit then make a stealth check to see what type of damage you do plus i was kinda iffy of what people would think of a assassin that could control shadows instead of just the normal run up and stabb them in the back thing glad u like it it should be upgraded next week any way

I have a few questions.

1. Where is shadow strike? Its listed under abilities but I don't see it there.

2. Shadow walk seems a little overpowered. Is there something i'm missing, or is it meant to be so powerful?

3. You said you were going to change sneak attack. Is shadow strike just sneak attack renamed? If so, good idea, because you don't want it to have the same feature as another class.

well i dont mind people pointing stuff out but please think before posting. ill start with my reasons

1. there is no shadow step in the class so were did shadow step come from

2. the warlock has shadow walk and that is were i took it from. now if it is becouse the warlock is a range class and this crosses mostly melee with a little range then give me a good reason why i should remove shadow walk and i will do it.

3. all the teleporting abilitys are encounter or daily apart from the daily power i will be or last witch i ahve took from the avanger

now any other things that i should no about i need input that is good not wild goost chases
