| #1inlicereAug 15, 2008 13:24:16 | Here's a twist for your consideration... I've started assigning power sources to magic items in my campaign, so that any given item gets its power from one of the sources listed in the PHB (other than martial). This is mostly just for flavor, but I do also take it into account when a character wants to identify a magic item -- for example, a character using Arcana would learn more about an item based on the arcane power source, while a character using Religion would learn more about an item based on the divine power source. In some cases, it's possible to create the same type of item from more than one power source. For example, an amulet of health might draw either on the divine or the primal power source. However, any given amulet of health would draw only on one or the other -- whichever it was created to use. I realize that many people would find this to be too much hassle to deal with. It doesn't bother me though... it just seems natural, and consistent with the general idea of power sources. Any thoughts? |
