Writing a 'returning heroes' campaign where, in the players 5 century absence, almost everything has turned undead, including the players, but not telling them at first. I do not want anything that is going to drastically alter much, but I need enough that the players will figure out something ain't right during the first 3-5 sessions and gradually piece it together. So far this is what I have

Undead- anything that specifically needs a living target/undead target misses/hits since, duh.
Immune to disease.
do not need to eat/breathe/drink/sleep - still need 6 hours of rest to gain benefit of an extended rest, not immune to any effect, still CAN eat/breathe/drink/sleep.
Tireless- no penalty for not resting, no penalty for forced march, no exhaustion (except from effects/powers), ect.

I know a lot of the players realizing this is gonna depend on my descriptions of things, but how does that look to yall? I'm planning on them realizing eveyone else is undead first, then that they are, but we'll se how that goes. This is a group of experienced players, some starting in ADND, some in 3.0/3.5, and one here in 4e, so anything from the old versions yall can think of to help describe this would be great.
Planning a bunch of nightmares for when/if they ever sleep already. that always spooks PCs.

Give everything the "living construct" traits oif Warforged. Alter it a little but that should be fairly simple. That's my advice anyway.

Those up there don't seem to be a real problem.

And this is why I come here.
I really like the Death Saving Throw aspect for this, but thinking of flipping it on it's side, to embrace the old 'destroyed at zero hp' aspect of undead. Tell me what yall think of this:

Deaths Hold: you do not continue to lose hp below 0, and you do not die at negative bloodied, however you do fall inert (heal checks say your dead), and do not reanimate until your hp rises above 0. you still die if you fail three death saving throws however.

Hmm, that could really bite if your out of healing surges, maybe some kind of check to see some unlife still in the body. Arcana or Religion? Once the players realize whats going on they will certainly be able to take advantage of this though.

If you hjave the autoimatic ten on death saving throws in place it would be pretty cool.

"He's dead... Holy ****!!"

I can just see a one of my players dropping, one does the obligatory mid-combat heal check, "He's dead" then an AoE heal goes off. Hehe.

Or one of them goes down and nobody manages to heal them.

A few days later that one walks up to the party... "Why'd you forget me?"

Hehe...

Deal damage beyond 0 as normal and that kills them. Assume that if left with unintelligent monsters they will liklely be eaten.
