| #1doomsoughtJul 27, 2008 12:18:52 | The big hole in the ground, The city-state of Kobolds ruled by a dragon, Aurix Foramen. Preface, to the thread: I intend Aurix Foramen to be Edition independent, so most of the material will be maps and fluff. If I do have stats, I will ask for help so I may have them in both 3ed and 4ed. As to the purpose of this thread, that is to share a wondrous city for adventure, intrigue and high magic. And get some more Ideas to fill it out. Maps: |
| #2Ra-TielJul 27, 2008 15:42:19 | Wow, those maps look great! :D Have you considered scanning them and giving them a little polish on the computer? If yes, I'm sure the people at cartographersguild.com can give you some ideas or help you with them. ![]() Keep up the good work. ![]() |
| #3doomsoughtJul 27, 2008 18:30:45 | There are people in this city, and they have names. Capitol Building: Lieutenant1 yet to be named, adventurer-friend of Laetissimus |
| #4doomsoughtJul 29, 2008 20:08:35 | ![]() I'm working on another map, but I need some Ideas: It is a section of the upper most Hub, just north of the Tower of sorcery; I need some shops and services to be in the walls along the hub so far I have: A shoe shop A Illusion themed "club", named "The Gilded Dolphin" A granary/warehouse |
| #5omar-scaJul 30, 2008 1:29:18 | Mind if I ninja your idea for my campaign? I was toying with the idea of a town of LG Kobolds under the 'supervision' of a Gold Dragon. This should do nicely. |
| #6doomsoughtJul 30, 2008 12:58:47 | Go ahead, but see if you can give me any NPCs or interesting shops you develop, that is part of the reason I posted it. |
| #7doomsoughtAug 01, 2008 13:56:39 | Upper North Hub added, A Place for Adventure, Drunkenness and intrigue. Connected to the Tower of sorcery. |
| #8doomsoughtAug 03, 2008 19:20:13 | Regional map added. Population: 10000 Kobolds 600 Humans 120 Halflings (mostly in outlying farms) 90 Dwarves Units of measure: The head = one common foot Tectum = 5 head = 5 feet, the normal height of a ceiling for a Kobold's personal cavern and the tunnels in the warrens. Dragon's Tectum= 8 Tectums or 40 feet. A Flight = 25 Dragon's Tectums or 1000 ft, about 1/5 a mile. Embassies Kanab: Kanab seeks an empire, through diplomacy and conquest. Currently Kanab is too wary of the Dragon's city to do anything violent. Firadoor: Shortened from "fire door," Firadoor is an elven city state built around a natural portal to the elemental plane of fire, On the other side of the Brice mountains, it is Aurix Foramen's greatest rival in magical power. Gunthur hold: the Dwarven holds are never clear if they are unified. Nemus: A druidic elven city state in the forests to the south east. Although haughty enough to ignore Kanab, they are not nearly as proud as a dragon. The Empire of Ching Xi: A LG Drow empire, born of a uprising 300 years ago, the empire is a valuable trade partner. Jade jewelry, training in the martial arts and many alchemical supplies have been bought with adamantine and magical weapons. Imports: Food, Luxury goods, Alchemical supplies. Exports: adamantine, silver, magic items. |
| #9doomsoughtAug 11, 2008 8:11:03 | ![]() Wrote up the Hangover family earlier New map, Residential area. I've started to use Photoshop for finishing the maps, saves me allot of work on filling in the solid rock. |
| #10doomsoughtAug 24, 2008 15:30:56 | Ranks of the guard The city guard is an army, not only that, but they are tough, as in close to a player tough. Just not as creative. Higher ranks are of a higher level and more powerful. Veterans of any unit are one level higher. Levels are given in PC equivalent for 3ed, 4ed at level +(Any one who has an Idea tell me), minion at level +10 (for example, a recruit would be a level 12 minion) Members and Levels Recruit level 2 These are the new guys, one field training, when working in large groups they are mixed half and half with privates. Private level 3 Standard infantry, they are often used in raids on criminal organizations or bandit camps. Sergeant Magi level 4 Lowest rank of magic user. Constable level 5 to 8 Tough police officers who walk the streets. They are equipped with rings of detect lies (at will) and are able to cast Lesser Mark of Justice.8 Lesser Mark of Justice Cantrip/ritual Will negates The target is marked by the signature of the caster as if by an Arcane Mark. This will last for a pre-determined time and then disappear. If the acts acording to a pre-determined behavior the mark turns to red. Use: A pick pocket when caught will loose one pinky finger or serve the victim for a number of weeks equal to the value stolen in GP. If service is chosen (by the victim) then the Pickpocket receives the Lesser Mark of Justice for the time of service |
| #11doomsoughtAug 27, 2008 19:23:11 | Military activity: Close to 30% of the citizens of the dragon city are enrolled in the guard. This is not due a great warmongering among the population but instead caused by the Kobold's natural tendency to need a authority above it. The guard, when not needed to defend the city, works on civic improvements or in the mines. Natural Resources: The majority of the Dragon city's natural wealth is in the bedrock. In a vast cone widening so deep into the earth that no power of the under dark has mapped its bottom is a vein of silver-adamantine ore. Because of the vein's composition it is near impossible to mine the ore without magical tools, and requires nothing less than magical fire to smelt. The interior of the cone after only one hundred feet is a much softer silver ore mixed with granite. Magical industry: With the guidance of the Tower of Sorcery and some alchemical additives to the water to increase magical aptitude, the dragon city has become one of the greatest sources of wondrous items in the known world: Force Elevator This form of Wondrous Architecture came out of the need to move bulk goods quickly up and down the many levels of the warrens. Voice activated, it brings its cargo the the numbered floor. Caster level 10, (craft wondrous item, Levitate, Wall of force) 6000gp for a level*square |
