| #1UsagiYojimboAug 22, 2008 14:50:34 | EDIT 1: Updated and cross referenced everything including changing the Heavy Chariot accompany the Tanker Path and updating the intro text. Here's the idea. Battle Wheelchair. Okay, now digest how cool that would be. Now understand that it actually exists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheelchair_rugby. ![]() Okay the idea is pretty much completed. I have some feats, two paragon paths and two new types of armors. The chariots function as armor. The Light Chariot has a built in suit and covers the legs with plates of steel. The Heavy is more of a boxlike structure, covering the who body in non-moving plates except for the arms which are covered by hinged metal covers. The design is such that you cannot wield a weapon while on board so it works as a weapon, but if you take the Tanker Path you gain the ability to mount your weapon. Any thoughts, I especially need help figuring out how the idea will happen in game i.e. Prices, Combat with and without the Chariot and balancing just about everything. It's more of a first draft, but with your help I could have it ready for school in a week-and-a-half. Please give me some Crunch based advice. New Keyword Chariot: Meaning the attack may use the damage die from the Mini-War Chariot, essentially using it as the weapon. Heavy: Show Wheelchair Warrior Prerequisites: Proficiency in Scale or Plate armor, Strength 14, Constitution 14. Benefit: You are proficient with the Heavy Mini-War Chariot. Heavy Mini-War Chariot Heavy Armor Armor Bonus: +8 Armor Check Penalty: -2 Weapon Function: 1d10 damage, +2 Proficiency Special: Gain access to the At-Will Power Chariots of Fury. Difficult Terrain costs you 1 extra square of movement. While in the Mini War-Chariot you do not gain your normal Armor bonus and may not use your normal weapon but you need not remove your normal armor. Chariots of Fury Special You power along on your heavily plated Chariot and slam violently into an opponent. At-Will * Martial, Weapon, Chariot Standard Action Melee Weapon Target: One Creature Attack: Strength vs AC Hit: 1[W]+Strength modifier and the target is knocked prone. Special: Increase damage to 2[W] at 21st level. |
| #2UsagiYojimboAug 23, 2008 19:01:33 | Some Feats: Heavy: Show Heroic Heavy Mini-War Chariot Specialization: Prerequisite: Wheelchair Warrior, Constitution 16 Benefit: You gain a +1 Feat bonus to your AC while riding a Heavy and Superior Heavy Mini-War Chariot. Paragon Wheelchair Combat Prerequisite: Wheelchair Warrior, Strength 16 Benefit: You may use Chariots of Fury as your Melee Basic Attack. |
| #3wyld_mutationAug 23, 2008 19:09:32 | Are the wheelchairs going to be armor? You know this kinda makes my head hurt... |
| #4UsagiYojimboAug 23, 2008 19:17:17 | Yes, sorry. The idea was in my head but not really on the page. The wheelchairs are going to have sort of cages around them, so you can ram an enemy with you weapon out front. |
| #5bojangles_the_barbarianAug 23, 2008 21:06:55 | You're going to Hell, dude, lol. |
| #6ff6shadowAug 23, 2008 21:44:02 | That isn't nice Bojangles. Besides which, I find the idea of a battle wheelchair hilarious. |
| #7bojangles_the_barbarianAug 23, 2008 23:31:47 | I didn't mean it to be mean, just it's hilarious in that "I shouldn't laugh" sorta way. But as it is now I think you've got both feet on the ground. You've managed to walk the line of playability here and keep yourself from rolling out of bounds. |
| #8ff6shadowAug 24, 2008 0:43:01 | I knew you didn't mean it to be mean. Just hassling you. He did do a fairly good job of keeping it balanced and fricking hilarious. I always forget that the internet doesn't translate sarcasm. |
| #9wyld_mutationAug 24, 2008 0:44:48 | Bojangles... You are totally going to hell. Seriously, how many jibes at the mobility-impaird did you make in that one sentence? |
| #10UsagiYojimboAug 24, 2008 7:51:40 | It's a Special Olympics event, I think of it as empowering in a strange sort of way. Mostly though I think it is just an awesome, awesome, awesome sport. I mean their powering around in these little tank/wheelchairs ramming into each other and tossing a ball around. I would watch that any day regardless of how mobile the players normally are. |
| #11wyld_mutationAug 24, 2008 8:11:09 | The problem is I'd be aughing. I wouldn't be able to help it. The idea is just so funny. I would be laughing at the concept of the sport, not the players. I'm not that twisted. |
| #12UsagiYojimboAug 24, 2008 8:24:34 | Oh yeah, it's definitely hilarious. I wouldn't feel bad. |
| #13UsagiYojimboAug 24, 2008 13:30:21 | Tanker Not so big after you've been run over, eh. Prerequisite: Wheelchair warrior You have created a new style of combat. Encounter*Martial, Weapon Standard Action Melee Weapon Target: One creature Attack: Strength vs. AC Hit: 2[W]+Strength Modifier Damage. Effect: You may move up to your speed before or after this attack. Shelled Warrior Tanker Utility 12 You spin wildly deflecting attacks against your thick shell. Immediate Interrupt Personal Trigger: You are hit by an attack. Effect: You take no damage from the attack, enemies adjacent to you take your Strength Modifier in damage. Secondary Target: One creature Secondary Attack: Strength vs. Reflex Hit:1[W]+Strength Modifier Damage, the target is knocked prone and pushed up to 5 squares. Effect: You can shift up to 5 squares along with your secondary target and make a tertiary attack. If the target of the primary attack is adjacent to you and different from your secondary target they take your Strength Modifier in damage. Tertiary Target: Once Creature Tertiary Attack: Strength vs Reflex Hit: 1[W], the target is knocked prone and pushed up to 5 squares. Effect: You can shift up to 5 squares along with your tertiary target. If the target of your secondary attack is adjacent to you and different from your tertiary target they take your Strength Modifier in damage. |
| #14UsagiYojimboAug 24, 2008 17:38:49 | Wheeler Are you kidding me, your going to run up a hill to attack me. Prerequisite: Legless Locomotive You have taken on a new form a mobility. By streamlining the design of your Mini-Chariot you can gain the speed to cut your enemies apart. You are so gifted with your machine that you can zip across rocky battlefields or up hills. Wheeler Path Features: Uphill Advantage(11th Level): If you begin your turn uphill from your target you gain Combat Advantage. Accelerating Blade Action(11th Level): When you spend an action point to take an extra action, you also add one-half your level to the damage dealt by any charge attacks this turn. Power Steering(16th Level): You do not have to move in a straight line when you charge. No space you move into may be next to or behind the a space you previously occupied. Wheeler Exploits: Show Leaping Lightning Wheeler Attack 11 With a flick of your wrist you rocket into your target, sword arm swinging. At the last moment you lean back in your Mini-Chariot and launch yourself off of the target, landing on another foe. | #15bojangles_the_barbarianAug 24, 2008 21:23:46 | Bojangles... Sorry, I thought this was the sort of crowd I could run with. @UsagiYojimbo: Brilliant feats and exploits. My only question is what happens when you fall over? |
| #16UsagiYojimboAug 24, 2008 21:59:32 | Hey, it isn't easy to stand up while wear full plate and carrying 250 pounds of armor. To operate any of these you need to be super buff and mostly in the upper body, I imagine someone who does this would be able to throw their weight and stand up. Like in Power Rangers but with no feet. |
| #17wyld_mutationAug 25, 2008 9:13:00 | I feel horrible... I laughed at that... I'm going to hel!! *proceeds to do evil acts since he has realized that he is, at heart, evil* |
| #18ff6shadowAug 25, 2008 9:17:01 | Hey now Wyld, this isn't badly run second edition were you have to do things based on your alignment. FIght the evil, do good acts!. But yeah, this is funny. |
| #19UsagiYojimboAug 25, 2008 9:26:18 | Awesome guys, I appreciate your comments but I really need help balancing this. As goofy as it is I totally plan on at least throwing some villains or NPC's with this combat style. Heck, once my PC's see this they might want to join. |
| #20ff6shadowAug 25, 2008 9:35:09 | Tanker Utility 12 should probably read Adjacent enemies take damage equal to your Strength modifier. It also seems relatively weak, Can Tanker Daily 20 allow you to target the same guy with all three attacks? Is Wheeler Encounter 11 not supposed to have a stat modifier to damage? I'm not sure Wheeler Daily needs to have the +2 to hit, since you are already targetting Reflex, and the secondary attacks has combat advantage. Also, is it necessary to specify roles for the paths. I could see some fighters being interested in the Wheeler path and some ranged might go for Tanker. As for the chariots themselves, are they considered light or heavy armor? Can you enchant them? Do they have improvements for being enchangted to a certain level like regular armor? That is about all I see at the moment. |
| #21UsagiYojimboAug 25, 2008 9:58:57 | Okay, originally I had it deflecting the damage, like the attack is canceled and then everyone gets hit with Strength modifier, or I could make it give a bonus to AC. The idea is that the Tanker Daily 20 can but if you do it is slightly worse, as in it can do some good damage to one guy or a little less to several. If you use the secondary or tertiary attack against the same guy then they don't take the Strength Mod, I didn't write that in but I will. Yes, Wheeler 11 was supposed to be like that but I don't remember why so I will change it. Agreed, the bonus will be removed. Well I was hoping to sort-of make them applicable but I guess I don't have a problem with them being available to others. The question of enchantment is the one I need the most help with, I will re-read the item sections in the PHB and DMG but I need some direction. As for light and Heavy armor, the Light is Light armor on par with Chaimail and the Heavy is Heavy armor on par with Plate. That is the idea at least. Some of these ideas happened after I had already written some stuff, originally the Chariots were sort of Pseudo-Armor but now I think it pretty much should just be Armor you can wear over your other armor. That way you can sort of leap out of the Chariot mid-combat. Because of this idea think it should be a move action to get out of the Chariots... anyway I need to go back and edit. Thanks |
| #22rikijiAug 25, 2008 14:23:33 | Calls images to mind of Terry Pratchit's Interesting Times. I'm pretty sure at least one of the Horde had a wheelchair. |
| #23zathina_mageAug 26, 2008 10:15:42 | This interests me. Mainly because one of my characters is actually legless. <.> What, they said they wanted original characters for the campaign, and there were going to be alot of undead. So I got to play a normal human intelligence, zombie, monk who had no legs or skin. The thing was he was highly charismatic though. His every word was either him cracking a joke at his own size, or making fun of taller people for being short, and such. He is also a father figure whos been searching for his still living children somewhere. But he can't remember much from his past, except in life he was a err... whatever that wrestler PrC was. Anyways, this looks like something I could really tweek with him. XD |
| #24UsagiYojimboAug 26, 2008 10:26:37 | Well there you go. I knew someone must be playing someone who can't walk. Anything missing? Anything you might add, I'm still crafting this. |
| #25zathina_mageAug 26, 2008 10:39:35 | Not really. Unless you want to look at how various actions would need to be taken in this. Imagine being knocked over or having to climb/jump. XD Anyways, I got nothing to add. Just may use it when your done. XD Ironically, I'm the secound person to be disabled so far in game. The other guy, has only one leg. XD Wonder if he'd use it. |
| #26UsagiYojimboAug 26, 2008 11:17:38 | I am so glad you brought this up. I actually have an answer to both of your questions. I wrote this progressivly and there are a number of ideas that came up later. If you are knocked over you may stand up as normal by pushing off the ground and throwing your weight to the side. In order to use either of the chairs you have to do tons of specialized training. Standing in Full-Plate is no easy task. Learning to fight on Horseback requires a lot of specialized training as well. I will add in a skills section once it is written up but the gist is that you cannot use Athletics or Acrobatics in the heavy. The light is capable of using some Acrobatics and Athletics. |
| #27bojangles_the_barbarianAug 26, 2008 21:01:17 | You know, I was going to go into a rant how hard it would be to pick yourself up and how it would probably be harder than a move/whatever action, but then it hit me: How the hell do these players get up? So yeah, I guess it isn't that big of a deal. Rant about not ranting: over. |
