Unfortunately, the Bavar turned on him. They killed him, supposedly. After that, the three versions escaped into the wilderness. They can be found in bear packs and tribes of bear-type humanoids. |

From what you've posted, I'd suggest dropping the half-breed theme. It's only interesting if it's comparatively rare. |
| #3the_uruk_hai_orogMay 29, 2009 7:10:39 | It's only interesting if it's comparatively rare. They aren't a playable race. They are NPC's found in some tribes. The Dire and Uber Versions can be found living in the strangest of places. I also have a race descended from werebears. And, no, they are not shifters or lycanthropes. I will give you a hint to the name. What do you get when you poke a grizzly with a flaming stick(besides bear for dinner.)? |
| #4silent_stoneMay 29, 2009 8:39:11 | I will give you a hint to the name. You're naming the race "murdered in the face by a bear"? And how come crossbreeding ogres and trolls equals either ogroll or trog, but crossbreeding a bear and an orc doesn't result in a berc or an oar? And more importantly, can ogrogrolls and bavars interbreed? |
| #5the_uruk_hai_orogMay 29, 2009 12:02:45 | You're naming the race "murdered in the face by a bear"? No the race is not "murdered in the face by a bear." Why is a cross between an orc and a baboon called a "Losel"? because it was bred magically, like this race. Therefore, it favors neither parent. Yes, Ogrogrolls and bavars can interbreed. Losels as well. What is another name for vengeance and anger? |
| #6ekioMay 29, 2009 13:43:46 | No the race is not "murdered in the face by a bear." Orc and a baboon? Wha... what?! |
| #7silent_stoneMay 29, 2009 13:55:40 | What is another name for vengeance and anger? Um, fury? Wrath? Retribution? Just for the record, are there any races that cannot interbreed through either magic or mundane* means? *I'm using a really loose definition of mundane here. |
| #8the_uruk_hai_orogMay 29, 2009 14:47:18 | Wrath. Now combine that with bear but remove two letters. There are some races. The ogres and trolls can't breed directly with elves or halflings for 1 generation. But, after that, they may interbreed freely. |
| #9silent_stoneMay 29, 2009 14:53:56 | Wrath + bear - two letters...Wrabear? Bearath? Whatbra? |
| #10the_uruk_hai_orogMay 29, 2009 15:11:52 | Bearath |
| #11the_uruk_hai_orogJun 22, 2009 8:19:54 | I love lord of the rings so much that I have included Uruk-Hai since I began DM'ing . The Uber Bavar are a cross between Uruk-Hai and Dire bears. The Dire Bavar are a cross between orcs and Dire bears. The Dire Arctodus simus- Largest form of bear. This is not a Bavar. The Bavar version is very sadistic. |
| #12the_uruk_hai_orogJul 01, 2009 10:03:50 | Nice, huh. |
| #13drackthorJul 02, 2009 1:01:09 | I'll be honest, that sounds convoluted and hastily-conceived. Why on anywhere from Earth to Abeir-Toril would a wizard need orc-bear crossbreeds? One of them isn't even sentient. And both share the same traits: strength, hardiness and large stature. You're not 'gaining' anything from the fusion of the two. It's not like one race has a predilection for intelligence and dexterity while the other is hardy and strong. Then, at least in theory, your optimal creation is fast, intelligent, strong and capable of taking a hit. This is more of a "I'm A DM; Watch!" and not so much an interesting addition to a game world. Especially in a gameworld like yours, where halfbreeds are about as rare as oxygen. |
| #14the_uruk_hai_orogJul 02, 2009 5:32:33 | I'll admit it, The wizard was insane. But there is a thing called hybrid vigour. If the parents are in good health, the child will be in better. These guys were meant to by to improve upon those traits both share. They are crossed magically. Besides, they were bred to breed faster than orcs, and Improve on the orcs' best qualities. The story goes like this: one day, when I was in a creative slump while trying to come up with a race. I wrote down a couple of letters. B-A-V-A-R. I said, "Sounds like it is bear-related." I like bears. Therefore, I came up with what it is and it's backstory. It wasn't easy. |

Especially in a gameworld like yours, where halfbreeds are about as rare as oxygen. How do you know that. Half-breeds in mine are not common. I don't have that many. This is one of my few. Check my thing on Dworcs. I listed most of my half-breed there. The only exceptions are some old favorites. Oxygen only takes up 20% of the atmosphere. |

When you count the actual number of elf breeds, the number isn't immensely high, but ask anyone, and they'll undoubtedly tell you that there are way too many elf breeds as it is. Not to mention in this and your other threads combined you've mentioned your world has, what, seven crossbreeds? Eight? Oxygen only takes up 20% of the atmosphere. Ah, but there's enough for everyone inhabitting the atmosphere and more. |

I'm not saying it has absolutely no merit to it. Hell, I like bears too. I'm just saying the concept isn't all that great. I like bears. I like orcs. But I like ketchup, and I like ice cream, but I don't put ketchup on my ice cream. Same deal. |
| #18vebrandssonJul 03, 2009 21:43:13 | @Drakthor, you won't win with this guy, he has a number of other odd topics on these forums all with odd convoluted, ill contrived, and poorly thought out half breeds that make next to no sense. I've tried, there is no talking sense into this guy, just leave him alone, all he wants is people to stat out his insane and incomprehensibly pointless half-breeds for him and he won't budge an inch (or do any work himself for that matter). |
| #19drackthorJul 03, 2009 22:11:31 | @Drakthor, you won't win with this guy, I wasn't aware that I was competing with him. ;) He asked what people think of his work, I'm just not a fan of the fluff he's made. he has a number of other odd topics on these forums all with odd convoluted, ill contrived, and poorly thought out half breeds that make next to no sense. | #20the_uruk_hai_orogJul 04, 2009 11:16:24 | I have done a lot of work myself. I don't know how to stat. I am just working other parts of it. I take stuff that I know works well, and I use it. My friend came up with a number of things. When he told me he didn't want me to put them in my DnD Homebrew, I respected his wishes. I want people to have some of my stuff. The eight crossbreed through mine are mostly either:bred for war by a warlord(my special type of orcs, which you won't see here. EVER. Although, it is more of a cross between subraces than actual races.), something that isn't uncommon between extremely similar and closely related races(trogs and ogroll), Forcibly bred by demons(Dworcs), bred alchemically, or are just plain rare. They aren't poorly thought out. Most were meant to be rare. The Trog and ogroll exist because trolls and ogres are similar in mind and are, in fact, descended from a single being. Some of my races were made by elves by combining the DNA of there greatest heros with that of some monsters(alchemically, of course). In some lands, Humans only exist in the blood of half-orcs and half-ogres, as the orcs ogres and goblins wiped them out years ago and the rest of the races, with a couple of exceptions. The gnolls, quaggoth, some trolls, a couple of giants, and fiends were allowed to live. It is a land of nomads and tribes. The only cities are either ruins or surrounding a palace of a king. It is a barbaric land. You don't have to like it. I am working on it. |
| #21the_uruk_hai_orogJul 04, 2009 11:22:36 | I wasn't aware that I was competing with him. ;) Thank you. I know that it makes little sense at the current moment. But I am still working on it. |
