| #1lady_ishtarMar 31, 2009 9:43:21 | here is my idea at "fixing" the ranger's animal companion. that is not to say it was broken, i just want to give them a little more oomph. let me know what you think about these. thanks in advance. damage: increase the damage your companion deals by 1 at level 1, and another 1 at levels 6, 11, 16, 21, 26 to a max of +6. also your animal companion deals 1d6 bonus damage on critical hits at level 1. increase this by another 1d6 at levels 6, 11, 16, 21, 26. basically your animal is a basic magic weapon for damage purposes only. abilities: each animal type has two different abilities. at character creation chose one of those. Bear - brutal 1 or critical restrain (until escape) Boar - brutal 1 or critical knockdown Cat - high crit or critical grab (until escape) Lizard - brutal 1 or high crit Raptor - high crit or critical blindness (save ends) Serpent - critical ongoing 5* poison damage (save ends) or critical restrain (until escape) Spider - critical ongoing 5* poison damage (save ends) or critical immobilized (save ends) Wolf - critical knockdown or critical grab (until escape) * increase ongoing poison damage to 10 at level 11 and 15 at level 21. |

And I'm not sure what a critical grab is. I'm assuming you mean it makes a grab on a critical, correct? In either case, I don't think it's really necessary to say "until escape" since there's already rules for what to do when restrained or grabbed. But I like the features as a whole. Instead of brutal, I'd stick with the idea of knockdowns or immobilization and restrains on crits since it'd be a good incentive to use the pet to get some possible extra effects on crits. For the Raptor I'd probably go with slow instead of high crit, and make every last one of them until end of next turn instead of save ends... that's way too powerful. Maybe make paragon feats that changes it to save ends? It's a good start |
