Rather than writing up completely new races and the like, and having to worry significantly about game balance, I decided to use the idea of Paragon racial feats to simulate the special defenses from BECMI. |

When the dwarf reaches the 1,400,000 experience point mark, the dwarf automatically takes only half damage from any damage causing spell or spell-like effect (such as from a magical item or strange monster powers such as beholders' eyes but not including dragon's breath). Divide the rolled damage by 2 and round down. If the effect allows a saving throw, a successful roll indicates that he only takes 1/4 damage; divide the rolled damage by 4 and round down. (If the result is 1/2 point of damage or less, the character takes 1 point of damage.) Rather than trying to ascertain whether a damage source is magical, spell-like... I took a look at the Variable Resistance out of the Monster Manual and came up with the following idea for a feat that simulates this power rather well, and does not look OVERLY broken. Paragon Tier Feats Magic Resistance [Dwarf, Halfling] Prerequisites: Mystaran Dwarf, Mystaran Halfling, 11th Level Benefit: You gain use of the Magic Resistance power as an at-will ability. Magic Resistance Feat Power You can resist some of the most powerful magics of the land. At Will Free Action Personal Trigger Whenever you are hit by an attack that causes acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage. Effect: As a free action, you may choose a type of damage from the following list: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder. You gain 5 resistance to the chosen damage type for the rest of the encounter. Special: Only one type of damage from this ability at any one time. |

Paragon Tier Feats Magic Resistance [Dwarf, Halfling] Prerequisites: Mystaran Dwarf, Mystaran Halfling, 11th Level Benefit: You gain use of the Magic Resistance power as an encounter ability. Magic Resistance Feat Power You can resist some of the most powerful magics of the land. Encounter Free Action Personal Trigger: Whenever you are hit by an attack that causes acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage. Effect: As a free action, you may choose a type of damage from the following list: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder. You gain 5 resistance to the chosen damage type for the rest of the encounter. Special: Only one type of damage from this ability at any one time. |

When the elf reaches the 1,600,000 experience points mark, he automatically takes only half damage from any breath weapon (most notably dragon breath, but including all sorts of breath weapon attacks). If the breath allows a saving throw, a successful roll indicates that the elf takes only one-quarter damage. When modifying damage sustained, always round down. If the result is 1/2 point of damage or less, the character takes 1 point of damage. Evade Breath Weapon [Aquatic Elf, Elf, Halfling] Prerequisites: Elf, Halfling, 11th Level Benefit: You gain Resistance 10 against Breath Weapons. At 21st level, this resistance increases to 20. |
