Basically take a beholder, split the giant eye in two, and put it on a humanoid body. The fluff is that there was a huge burst of aberrant energy in a large human city, many died, and the rest were corrupted by the energy, and transformed into a new race. They were enslaved by mind flayers and beholders, and have grown to hate their masters.

Beholderkin

Racial Traits

Abilities: +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom

Size: Medium

Speed: 6

Vision: Normal

Languages: Common, Deep Speech

Skill Bonuses: +2 Arcana, +2 Intimidate

Aberrant Origin: Your ancestors were transformed by energy of the Far Realm, and thus you are considered an Aberrant creature for the purposes of effects related to creature type.

Eyes of the Beholder: You gain a +5 racial bonus to saving throws against gaze effects.

I know this needs a lot of work. It needs a few more racial traits, and an encounter power. I want the encounter power to be a psychic gaze attack, but I'm not exactly sure how it should work. I'm hoping for some good feedback and advice. Also, potentially a new name would be great. Beholderkin just kind of seems boring. Thanks in advance DnD-philes.

Why do people think putting a beholder as the head of a humanoid body would look cool?  Personally I'd use the lensman, a 2nd edition beholderkin.  Alternatively something like the race from the eyekin from the Complete Guide to Beholders.  Although I have different idea than what Goodman Games did with the eyekin.  Another possibility is to make a beholder like creature with extremely limited flight.  Telekinesis or tentacles could be used to wield items.

Anyway, I'd give them a bonus to perception instead of one of the skill you gave a bonus to.  I'd be inclined to give them all-around vision.  A bonus to gaze effect saving throws doesn't seem like a good idea.  If anything beholder should have a harder time due to the number of eyes instead of an easier time.
