| #1vandenOct 20, 2008 18:16:55 | One of my favorite things to do as a DM is to give out magical booby prizes. My players seem to love it too, so I'm all the more eager to do it. I was wondering what other such items other DMs have given out on these forums. The items I've given the players of my current campaign so far are:
Some items I'm planning to give out:
What kinds of items have you guys come up with? |
| #2ff6shadowOct 20, 2008 18:24:28 | I like my DM's current gag. Talisman of Farm Animal Summoning. Calls a common farm animal, which vanishes when killed. Totally worthless most of the time. But then their was that time the paladin used to save me. Summoned a pig, which the Devourer chose to ate after I had made my save. Gave me the chance to run like hell. |
| #3doomsoughtOct 20, 2008 18:29:15 | A play on the classic belt of alternate gender: An amulate shaped like a Jackalope, which, when worn, changes the wearer into a human woman with Z-cups. But the key is how you describe them figuring out what it is: "when you put it on, you notice it sliding between your chest, and your friends looking at you strange, (PC A) starts laughing his A$$ off and (PC B) Gives you the oddest stare you've ever gotten, before gasping in shock and vomiting. As you peer down to figure out what the amulate is sliding Between, you discover that you are (X feet) (taller/shorter) and now have Z-cups." Then you wait for hilarity to ensue, especially in the making fun of character B. I've also heard of enchanted Gold pieces that make munching sound when the PCs eat. |
| #4ShiftkittyOct 21, 2008 14:48:08 | I gave the wizard an Orb of Knowledge that would answer 1d4 questions per day. It didn't matter where the question came from. If it was in earshot, the orb would answer and it counted against the per day limit. It could also be vague about things. Here's how it worked: Uffy: I know how to find the exit to this maze. I'll ask the Orb of Knowledge. (Uffy pulls the orb out of his backpack. I roll a d4, get a 1.) Stormy: Do you think it'll help us find the exit? Orb: Yes he does. So much for the one question. They wandered around for another game day, when the Orb was ready to answer another question. This time Stormy kept his mouth shut: Uffy: How do we get out of this maze? Orb: By finding the exit. Uffy: How do we find the exit? Orb: By searching for it. Uffy: Where is the exit? Orb: At what you would call the end of the maze. (Suddenly, something let out a god-awful howling-type sound. The direction was indeterminate.) Uffy: (jumping) What the hell was that?!? Orb: A hungry, undead minotaur that knows this place better than you do. They finally learned how to word questions to get useable answers, as well as what situations the Orb might actually be useful in. While it was new, however, it was a hoot. |

Did you just make a weighted companion cube?! |
| #6vandenOct 22, 2008 19:19:28 | Mebbe... |
| #7daddygeek84Oct 23, 2008 10:12:34 | Rings of Unity Two PC's each wear one of this pair of rings. When one of them is hit by an attack, they split the damage (i.e. each takes half damage). Side effects: The PC's begin to bicker incessantly and if one of them takes their ring off, the other gets half of their possessions. [magical wedding rings lol] |
| #8matthewswiftOct 23, 2008 16:43:06 | +1 Hoe. A magic farm implement. A guitar with a blade: an Axe. Chinese finger trap (atk vs will to put it on, dex check to escape) um... I'll think of more I've come across |
| #9thegreatgalstaffOct 23, 2008 17:51:29 | Blindfold of natural seeing: this blindfold when worn allows you to see as if you were not wearing a blindfold, (although it does nothing when your blinded or can't see naturally) The Ring of Dubba-U: It gives you a +20 on diplomacy checks to make up or mispronounce words during speeches. +6 blade of OOHH WHATS THAT: when ever someone tries to attack with this weapon it attacks, +20 vs will, if it hits, the person is dazed, whether he/she is looking at her reflection in the blade or sees a butterfly...ect (the fighter wanted a +6 blade at lvl 5, so i gave him this :heehee )Priceless Statue: everyone who sees this knows its priceless, This item weighs 500 lbs and has a magical enchantment that makes people want to buy it for how much its worth, the price tag is infinity; good luck finding someone with that much gold.:D I cant think of any more, most of my joke items are 3.5 |
| #10QubeOct 24, 2008 4:34:08 | on from our third edition campaign. A tiny marble duck statue. - detect magic shows that its a major artifact - it floats (but sinks if more then one pound is put on it). - it quacks when you squeese it. (edit: my epic psion tried for sessions what else it does: any enemy we encounter: he pulls out the duck, and squeese it....) |
| #11stonehydraJan 01, 2009 14:55:26 | Ideas I got well reading the adventurer’s vault. Evil Eye Fetish: I suggest looking up fetish in the dictionary if you don’t get this. The power would be similar to detect evil so place it as a high level reword. Girdle of the Dragon: would be a nice item to get if it were in your size. This ornate and valuable undergarment is grate for giving large worms a slimming figure. Face-Stealing Ring (#2): this ring makes all distinguishing fetchers of your face invisible showing gust the skull. Ring must be remove with remover curse ritual. Face-Stealing Ring (#3): the wearer of this ring tacks the physical appearance of the last warier of the ring (regardless of size, race, gender, age) but gains no special attributes of stat modifications as would someone naturally of there new form. Once on dawns ring effects are not reversible, but are repeatable. Onyx Dog: immediately upon conjuring it turns into: a small onyx Jack Russell terrier witch looks around and runs away speed 20. hat Form Armor: although resembling a much prized rat form armor upon activating warier is transformed into a rather fashionable hat for 3d6 hr. |
| #12chimeratechnologyJan 01, 2009 16:45:29 | My DM gave this to me... Bag of Eating:Anything Anyone puts or sticks into it is devoured and is gone forever. we thought it was Bag of Holding the size of a Sack, so we put the ranger's wolf into it... That was the first and last time that player came to our game. So Now we use it to get rid of cursed items... and the occasional NPC in the bar... "want to see a magic trick? Im gonna Make this Wench Disapper!" although the screams give it away... |
| #13thegreatgalstaffJan 03, 2009 10:05:26 | How about.... Portable hole pants Shoes of moonwalking. every step you take going froward you go backwards. (Cursed, cannot be removed until the curse is removed) |
| #14pyromancer999Jan 03, 2009 13:02:27 | I remember a few gags my DM has pulled, for instance: (put item's name here) of Gender-Switching: Any one who uses it gets their gender switched (male to female and vice versa). I once got a sword item like this, and I got a +2 to attack and damage rolls if someone damaged my chocolate stash. :D Cloak of Attractiveness: This makes the ugly seem incredibly good looking, and vice versa. +5 to Hide. Used when a member of my group got too proud about his looks and high Charisma score. |
| #15caulJan 17, 2009 13:41:22 | My DM gave this to me... Ah the good olde bag of devouring...better hope your DM doesn't have all those cursed items and what not chilling out in an alternate dimension...my group had to go search for something in a bags stomach plane once...nice... |
| #16fey_felineJan 18, 2009 22:13:36 | Suspicious Fey Brewed Potion "Don't do it man. Don't do it. No!..." "..." "He freaking drank it." Upon drinking, the user becomes covered in fur, their pupils narow, a long tail sprouts, their feet reshape into paws, and their ears reform into ones resembling those of a cat's. The user is now a Fey Feline, my homebrew race. My PCs hate anthros and my homebrew, so this is a quest reward to spite them. I might offer an antidote. |
