Okay so in the campaign world the group I play with will soon be heading to a port city with a massive library connected to the local spellcasters chapter academy along with several public and private libraries throughout the city.

What I need are books, grimoires, scrolls, tomes, and etcetera to fill said libraries up and am hoping to expand on a previous forum for such things.

In Addition, I am also that if a player needs to start a new skill or expand on a previous skill that reading said book could grant them a permenant bonus of one or two.

I also have an alternate book for alternate spells to learn for the parties spellcaster

The Ten Thousand Scrolls of Skala (Scribed by a Prophetic Demon, they are said to contain the names of every 'au-at-ar' or hero of destiny - kind of like a hit list if a villain knows your name at the age of twelve).
The Gobelin Tapestry (A map of the whole world is woven on this great linen cloth of such detail it is the only known map to the location of the Temple of Salunyak).

Seems rather open ended, are you looking for books that are plot hooks, useful but unrelated, or just fluff? All three? Do you want samples, or just catagories?

      Some ideas:

Bestiary: A collection of beasts and creatures. Could detail beasts based on origin (natural, fey, shadow...), or in the region/country they inhabit. A character that dilligently reads this book gains a bonus to monster knowledge checks, or if you seldom use those, a temporary combat bonus. Also could have a bonus to perception/nature checks for tracking these animals
Sample Bestiary: The Denizens of Blackwood, contains information on the various creatures that dwell in the dancing shadows and choking fog of the nightmarish Blackwood, a forest claimed by the restless spirits of long dead legions and their broken machines of war. Incomplete, since the author was not foolish enough to venture deep into the haunted woods.
+2 to nature, religion checks in Blackwood

Journal: A record of events and ideas as described by the perspective of the author. Effects could vary depending on whose journal it was, ranging from the possession of the reader by a ghost, the discovery of a new ritual or potion recipe, or the embarking of a quest to determine the mysterious guardian of the roads called Vanguard.
Sample Journal: The Journal of Isonar Ymir, Navigator of the Tidal Steed, recalls the doomed journey of the galleon The Tidal Steed as it sailed for a fabled temple off of the southern coastline. Crewmates became steadily and slowly insane, and abominations of writhing tentacles and hollow eyes invaded dreams. The ship was lost to see, and this book washed ashore upon a small, crippled skiff. It has taken severe water damage, and many of the pages are missing or smeared. Anyone who reads this journal learns the location of the temple, and a possible bonus to either dungeoneering or to fear saving throws.

 Skill increasing books:

History: What Many Forgot: The True Causes of the Ash War.
Acrobatics: Almost Dead: The Exploits of Swifteye Ander
Thievery: Inescapable, The Most Meaningless Word
Religion: Litanies of the Children of Dawn
Diplomacy: Making Friends: A Book for Idiots, Misanthropes, Hermits and the Bored!

 Hope this helps

I think there are 80 odd books in World of Warcraft. Go to wowhead.com for a list:

www.wowhead.com/achievement=1244

Some of the names in the titles may be too WoW-like but you'd get some nice word patterns...

A compilation of all of the book titles and contents from The Elder Scrolls CRPG can be found here: www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Main_Page

Specifically, the Library subsection.

If anyone in the group plays that series (quite likely that at least one person does) then you'll want to change identifiable names around, but otherwise it should keep your academy library well-stocked.

Depending on your group, you might get away with sneaking a few of the more obscure Mythos Tomes into your library without raising any eyebrows (link)...

"The Necronomicon", "The Book of Eibon", "Mysteries of the Worm", "The Pnakotic Manuscripts", "The Revelations of Glaaki", "The Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan", "The Zanthu Tablets", "The Eltdown Shards", "Nameless Cults", "The R'Lyeh Text", "The Pnakotic Manuscripts", "The Book of Skelos", "The Qabbalah of Saboth", "Cthonic Revelations", "Invocations to Dagon", "The Cults of Ghouls", "Revelations of Hali", "The Testament of Carnamagos", "Visions From Yaddith", "The Record of Leng", "The Book of Black Stones", "The Scriptures of Klek", "The Ygiroth Inscription", "The Moon Book", "Malleus Monstrarum", "The Voynich Manuscript", "The Book of Soyga", "The Secret Book of the People of the Stones", "The Rohonc Codex", "Prodigiorum", "The Sarafinian Codex", "Rongorongo"

If your players have more than a little background with weird fiction, they'll likely recognize more than a couple of these titles, and, if so, will instantly recognize that most have more than a slightly sinister reputation... bannings and burnings, diabolical origins, curses, madness, hauntings, illnesses, disappearances, distortions of the very fabric of reality; it's up to you just how much you want to play off that reputation.

I have put a sly 'Tales of the Lusty Dragonborn Maid' novel hint in an adventure ;)

Somewhere I have a few snippets for the book in the Army of Darkness film and I think the whole doppleganger/mirror self thrown in passing for either a PC or NPC to happen across.... I think I'll go with the NPC Rogue Lv6 with Combat Trapsmith Lv5 who is a neutral good normally

The Necronomicon Ex Mortis - the director's take on a Cthulhu Mythos tome.  If you haven't seen the earlier, related films in the Evil Dead series, they're worth watching, too

And, if you are interested, there's a very similar book that plays a central role in the low-budget stop-motion monster film classic, Equinox, which is unrelated to Army of Darkness and the two Evil Dead films, but fits in rather well with the series and "The Book" and Necronomicon Ex Mortis might as well be the same book.  Equinox is probably the cheesiest of these four movies, but still a lot of fun, and I kind of like to think of it as a "prequel" to the Evil Dead series.
