I think it's mostly okay, but I would appreciate anyone poking holes in it or pointing out potential abuses I haven't yet considered: Chalk of the Arcane Study Power (Healing Surge) Short rest. With the chalks contained in this small box, you draw an ornate archway on an adjacent vertical wall, which opens into a 20’ square study whose walls are lined with various tomes and scrolls. The air within is clean, cool and dry and is not limited by the volume of the space. You can open or close the archway as a minor action for the duration; while it is closed the drawn archway glows with a soft light. Creatures within the space gain a +5 power bonus to Arcana and History checks. The extradimensional space exists for one hour; you can dismiss the space with a standard action. At the end of the duration all creatures inside the space appear in a square adjacent square to the drawn archway. As I've come up with and refined the concept, it's become more central to my planned ideas for the campaign, so I'd really like to get it right. |

Maybe you missed it, but it is a Short Rest activation, meaning 5 minutes to draw it out. And I'd like to stay away from Daily activation if possible - I think that WotC leans on that crutch far too much, and I like the idea of being able to use an item repeatedly, but doing so being physically taxing. |

I think it using a Healing Surge is kinda tacked on though ... maybe turning it into a Ritual would be better? I think there should be some limit on how often you can do it (HS or Daily, or something). So why not expending material components? |

Having it be HS allows the Fighter to put it up 11 times a day. In my game i had a cowardly Warlock that almost never got hit because he'd stay solidly behind the wall of Fighter and Paladin. He'd have plenty of HS to toss on the doorway. |
