| #1rampantDec 15, 2010 18:12:09 | Basically would it be possible to replace a character's class with 2-3 themes. Now a class provides a basic skeleton: HP, surges, defense bonuses, skills, and at-wills. There I'd have three options: 1. Take the gamma world route and standardize the basics like hp, skills, and basic attacks. 2. Allow the themes to determine those things. 3. A hybrid approach, set the PC Starting hp at 8, and let each theme grant between +1 to +3 for three-theme system. Start with 9 and go up to +4 per theme on a two theme system. Do similar things for Skills, hp per level, and surges. Extending Theme powers to cover at-wills, and level 2- powers is simple enough. The real problem comes in with ability scores. See classes with their enforced ability score preferences keep the stats varied. Themes traditionally run off of your primary score and don't care which it is, and part of me likes that, alot. Since it means that Both Sorcerous and Shamanistic wilders can play the same theme with a different spin. So what if the themes still run off your primary stat but lots of feats for the themes run off a set stat to encourage a certain level of stat variance instead of the whole party picking which ever three stats they think are the most comprehensive. |
