Maybe I am crazy but one thing that is not seen too often on this board is homebrew build options. There are plenty of homebrew classes but few homebrew builds. So I want to start a thread that is completely devoted to making alternate build options, class features, and powers that can expand on already published classes.

Some examples might include:

Knight (Fighter build) = Favors Str, Cha, and Con
Samurai (Ranger build) = Favors Dex, Str, and Cha
Sohei (Barbarian build) = Favors Str, Wis, and Dex
Blade Singer (Bard build) = Favors Cha, Dex and Int
Marksmen (Warlord build) = Favors Dex, Cha and Int and maybe Wis
Primordial Pact (Warlock Pact) = Favors Cha, Int, and Con
Archivist (Cleric Build) = Favors Int, Wis, and Cha
Duelist (Rogue) = Favors Dex, Int and Cha

So is this crazy or a good idea? Are there any recommendations on what to start on first? Anyone is welcome to contribute and all ideas and feed back are welcome.

Knight
Knights Training
When you are using a shield you gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls. In addition you add Diplomacy (Cha) and History (Int) to you class skills list.

When using Combat Superiority you may use either your Cha modifier or your Wis modifier, which ever is higher.

You move at your normal speed even when it would normally be reduced by heavy armor or a heavy load.

Okay I got some of the Knight up, tell me your thoughts on it or on the workshop in general.

interesting idea in general.

question about the knight:
- mechanically, why the +1 damage bonus?
- bullwark stance seems overpowered (did you compare it with other fighter powers?)
- knightly rush is also overpower IMO (both move and push decimates the defensive line of the opponent ...)

Hmm I guess the +1 to damage is to follow in line with other variant class features like Tempest Technique. If something would be better let me know. As for the daily powers you are right in that they are quite a bit much. For the stance I will take out the extra damage for the encounter and the rush power will get a normal attack boost and I will reduce the push to half.

Knight's Training seems to make 1-handed weapon talent obsolete. It gives a bonus to hit for having a shield instead of a weapon which if your going 1-handed weapon talent you'd likely have both anyway. It then goes to give you a damage bonus with 1-handed weapons and versitile weapons which 1-handed weapon talent doesnt have. It also gives you the choice of more skills.

So why would anyone ever choose 1-handed weapon talent again?

The reason why Tempest and Battlrager give damage bonuses is because they are in lighter armour to get those bonuses. They are paying defence to get more offence.

If you got rid of the damage bonus, i think it'd be ok. Wis has alot of nice feats and paragon paths to really support it, so having the option to go cha with more skills can work.

I guess from what I am hearing the damage bonus thing should be nixed. Maybe I could replace it with ability where you don’t have to reduce you speed while wearing heavy armor. Then as a Knight feat let the dwarfs have something nice in return.

Give descriptions of the other builds, fluff if you have no crunch yet, and I'm sure plenty of people will be more then happy to suggest ideas.

Well I am not too great with fluff but I have some general ideas for what the builds would be like.

Knight: The build would be the most Defender-ish of the fighter builds and would focus on protecting allies. I see knights as stalwart defender of order, not to be confused with Paladins who are divine. I gave Knights some extra skills to represent them as “a gentlemen soldier”. While maybe not as in tune with battle as normal fighters (Wis) they make up for it with valor and bravery (Cha).

Samurai: Kind like the ranger except dependent on two-handed weapons, (Yumi, Katana, Yari, Naginata) but if a player wants to do a dual wielding thing the ranger already has plenty of powers for that. The main change would be the use of Cha instead of Wis trading hunter like perception for peerless focus and drive. I would probably give it the Samurai Path that would give the quick draw feat and a new way to place you hunters quarry.

Sohei: Kinda a quasi divine very spiritual barbarian. The idea is instead of focusing you own spirit into an outburst like form (rage) you gain spiritual forms (kinda like the warden but less polymorph and more stances like) by drawing in spirits. These forms can be expended like rages to do a Ki strike, which is just another name Rage Strike. So think Shaman + Barbarian, so the stats would favor Str and Wis instead of the normal.

Bladesinger: A more melee and spell focused bard build. If anything think of the build as the Final Fantasy red mage, comfortable with spell, skills, and blade. The other secondary stats for bards are Con, Int and Wis, so I think adding Dex to the mix could be a good idea. The middle grounds build for the bard.

Marksmen: This would be just more powers than a new build because I don’t see why a warlord cant sit in the back and lead. I like the idea of a Tactical warlord shooting precise arrows in the right spots to funnel a foe in a new direction or a Bravura warlord shooting a foe to draw ire to himself and away from an ally.

The reason I mention Wis is because the Marksmen thing had me think up of maybe a new build that would work well with archery powers. I would call it the Insightful Warlord, a character whose life on the battlefield has given them the insight and skills to change the flow of battle. Some warlords lead with charm, bravery, knowledge, but the Insightful Warlord leads with a cool head and a grasp of the surroundings. They would have the ability to know just what to do to get the results they needed.

Duelist: The build would Know (Int) how to stick in a blade. Tactical and daring the duelist would always know how to keep foes on the edge. The duelist does its best when it’s 1 to 1, harrying and confounding its foe to death. Think of them as kind of a more martial avenger.

Those are just some of the ideas.
