| #1LimondJul 09, 2011 18:23:32 | I am throwing around the idea of starting a 4e campaign and was wondering if people can recommend some good resources to the mapping of worlds. In a perfect world I am looking for something that can be randomly generated (possibly selecting a portion and just that area is generated), Looks decent, under 10 bucks, and has lots of customizbale options. The campiagn idea I am throwing around is sort of discovering the new world. Our heros would have to make the perilous crossing of the ocean, find a place a place for a settlement on land, reunite with the other boats that obvioulsy got lost on the journey, and explore the new land. If anyone could also recommend any good books along those lines, it would be swell as well. |

It's not completely random, but you can generate random landmasses, it isn't too difficult to use (by which I mean if you just start clicking things you'll have trouble, give the manual a quick skimming and you'll be good). I also like that you can link different maps together (so you can click on a city and automatically open the city map), project it to a player screen (in which case it hides any DM-only items), use layers to quickly hide or display items (useful to keep world maps from getting too crowded), it can handle campaign and battlemaps, and you can send your campaign maps to a globe view. You can also add any images and fill patterns you find (gotta love the internet) to it. You can create your own scripts and custom tools, although I haven't bothered with that yet. It wasn't too expensive, but I think it's over your $10 limit. |
