| #1XeadinFeb 26, 2009 21:16:00 | I am a decent D&D player, and my FIRST time playing it, too! Since I've started to play, I created a campaign like no other. It is compatible with both 3.5 and 4th Edition D&D. It is called Dungeons & Dragons: Legends of Anorbus. I made this from scratch, using the "DM for Dummies" book! Anorbus is a great countryside with lush forests, spiring mountains, and a gigantic plain that links many countries together. There are major cities in Anorbus: Heradi, Perculus, and Sardakor. The main character, Xeadin Faerreum, lives in Heradi with his father, who is the king of Heradi- King Xordus Faerreum. Xeadin has a sister, who is just as ambitious as his brother, but his mother, Queen Melidina Faerreum, had undergone a serious sickness. Turns out, an evil witch had cast a spell on her. One thing about Heradi is that momentarily, a floating temple will appear. This temple houses the Dragon Council. 8 mighty Dragons rule all of Anorbus, and all of which have a Lawful Good alignment. They are known as the 8 Dragons of Legend- Aelina, Dorathor, Luurak, Missilak, Ragurath, Regardor, Schallk and Teragorn. There are also two Legendary Dragons of the Dragon Council- Torvek and Dolestre. The dragons of the Dragon Council are the dieties of Anorbus, as well as a few added dieties to the rest of the Nelastor Peninsula and beyond. Xeadin is the main character (whom I play as- a PC) of the Legends of Anorbus. Xeadin joined the Heradi Army when he was 14 years old, and he impressed his father in his fighting skills. Later, when he was 16, his faction was set out to fight against the neighboring city, Sardakor, and when he was going through the road in the Argone Forests, a lightning bolt fell out from the sky and hit a band of trees. Turns out, Luurak was fighting a Wyvern up above the forest. He was going to get rid of the Wyvern with a lightning bolt, and the Wyvern outmaneuvered the bolt, as it came screaming down to the earth. Xeadin's men was separated from the main party, and was forced to make a detour. During the detour, Xeadin's men encountered an unlikely ambush from a party of Rogues, Rangers, and Paladins. Everyone, including Xeadin, was captured, and never heard from for several months. This is how Xeadin became a Paladin. During Xeadin's absence, a disturbance was bothering the dragons. They knew what the presence was, but they did not expect the strange presence to happen. They sent Teragorn to investigate what Korisona (the witch) was doing. During his investigation, he was closing in on her hideout, when a wave of tyrannical power struck him in mid- flight, causing his powers to become so unstable, he became a true monster. This was extremely unfortunate to the other dragons at home, for they did not forsee this to happen. They were forced to lock Teragorn deep within the confines of the Anorbus Ruins, where a huge gate of magic kept Teragorn from spreading his powers out into the world. The magic barrier that kept Teragorn at bay actually was bypassed by his magic. He made a series of Images of himself and called forth a huge army of Kobolds to overtake the world, and to fulfill Korisona's plan to unleash the Elemental Chaos into the natural world. This struck the dragons hard, and they knew not what to do. After several months, Xeadin reappears into a world of what was soon to be full of darkness and calamity. This is where Xeadin embarks on a journey to save his home, and ultimately, the world. The Cities of Anorbus: Heradi: The city of unending glory, where the Ivory Towers glisten in the sun, where the crowd roams freely through the streets, and where trade lines intersect. Heradi is smack dab in the middle of a trading community from all over the Nelastor Peninsula and beyond. All of the enormous wealth recived and paid to these traders come and go quite often. The Great Plains has a major trading route that ends at Port Sauleez and goes to another continent. Heradi is bordered by the Gretaii River, the Argone Forest, and the Great Plains. This is what makes Heradi unique from all other cities. Much of the commoners have access to natural resources outside of Heradi, since it is bordered by pretty much all types of environments. Only the Ivory Towers are visible from the canopy of the Argone Forest. King Xordus is a king to remember for years to come. He is not into Monarchy or Slavery- he is calm and reserved. He has a deep passion of nature and he has a knack for adventure. His trustworthy steed, Stormdusk, has the speed of a Stallion, yet it is a nimble horse. It has unwarry grace and speed, and Xordus always keeps it in top health. His sword, the Anorbus Greatsword is a very powerful weapon that can bring down just about anything from Goblins to Dragons. his son, Xeadin, keeps the Faerreum family tradition going, by carrying the Anorbus Greatsword down from generation to generation. Xeadin is to be the next King, for he is the prince of the City of Glory. As a Paladin, Xeadin has the necessary resources to do what he needs to prepare himself for life in the future years of Anorbus. Perculus: Perculus is similar to Heradi, up to the point of the Ivory Towers. The Ivory Towers are significant, because it signifies defense and honor amongst the guards that guard both cities. That's where the comparisons end. What makes this city so unique is that a dragon built this city from the ground up- Ragurath. At first the city was ntohing more that a cavern that housed the great Dragon of Wind. Monks and Druids worship Ragurath- he is the symbol of the Wise and Noble. He honors his citizens proudly and he keeps his loyalty to the Dragon Council. The Monks are the guardians of Ragurath; the Druids are the worshippers and priests of Ragurath. The Gretaii River flows next to Perculus, but the Argone Forest and the Great Plains aren't nearby. Instead, the Sortheya Mountains and the Northern Plains reside next to Perculus. The Valley of Flowers is a sacred landscape to Ragurath and all of the Nelastor Peninsula. Some say that the great diety, Heironeous, had a great civilization that was spectacular to most people of the late civilizations before the Dragon Council. Sardakor: sardakor is the opposite of Heradi. It is the City of Shadows, according to mythic prophecies. Sardakor is the city that never sleeps and is always awake with the Kobolds lurking back and forth in the streets. Before the Kobold army raided Sardakor, the city was sprawling with business and was about as equal as Heradi and Perculus. A recent turn of events had separated Heradi from sardakor, thus the Kobolds attacked Sardakor and overtook it within hours. now, the city is teeming with a vast number of Kobolds. Some say that the Kobolds are so advanced that they can create constructs that can be commandeered by many Kobold Engineers without ever needing an intelligence of their own. One such creation is the Kobold Defense Drone. It is similar to a slaughterstone Eviscreator, but is more deadly, and can fit 2 Kobold Engineers easily. Since the Constructs require Engineers, they remain inanimate until at least 1 Kobold occupies it. The Dieties of Anorbus are the dragons of the Dragon Council, but there are also a few evil dieties. All of their domains are for both Arcane and Divine spells. all of the Lawful Good dragons have the Law Domain. Good Dieties: Aelina- The Dragon of Water is Lawful Good. She is sometimes referred to as the Spirit of the Water. She makes sure that all trade boats and aquatic wildlife are safe from harm's way, and she can accomodate to make the tides and water levels just right for trading boats to dock. She favors the Bard class, and their influence on music makes her happy. The domains she is associated with are Law, Water and Healing. She is a Blue Dragon. Dolestre- One of the Legendary Dragons is Lawful Good. Her titles are the Astral Moon, the Dragon of the Moon, and Delver of Secrets. She uses the moon's radiance to fuel her own powers to use against her foes. Her scales shine as bright as the moon and they illuminate a fair amount of space in darkness. some say that when a full moon appears, her sword becomes so powerful that a strike from it will petrify the target that she hits, assuming that the target is not an undead, construct or abberation. She favors the Wizard class, and she can train them to be proficient and efficient spellcasters. The domains she is associated with are Law, Moon and Force. She is a Platinum Dragon. Dorathor- The Dragon of Fire is Lawful Good. His titles are the Fireforger and the One who Never Sleeps. He has control over the elemental forces of Fire and can control lava flows at will. Some say that when he becomes stressed, a volcano erupts according to his level of frustration. He favors the Fighter class, and in some ways Dorathor has some traits of a Fighter in him. The domains he is associated with are Law, Fire and Strength. He is a Red Dragon. Luurak- The Dragon of Thunder is Lawful Good. his titles are the Lightning Bolt, the Tireless Storm, and the Master of Speed. He is a very quick and agile dragon that has unmatched speed and agility, and he can overcome almost any challenge. He favors the Rogue class, as he himsrlf has some qualities of a Rogue. The domains he is associated with are Law and Thunder & Lightning. He is a Gold Dragon. Missilak- The Dragon of Divinity is Lawful Good. Her title is the Divine One. Her powers over Light and Good have influenced many to follow her footsteps to divine light, and she has a keen spirit to overcome many challenges. She favors the Paladin class, and she teaches them to resist the temptations and influences of Necromany and to battle those who wish to do harm to the divine zodiacs. The domains she is associated with are Law, Good and Protection. She is a Silver Dragon. Ragurath- the Dragon of Wind is Lawful Good. His titles are the Unsettling Winds, the Manifestation of Storms, and the whirlwind of Faith. He keeps the air around him and his allies calm, and he repels his enemies away by a series of devestating attacks. He favors the Ranger class, and he allows them to storm the forests with unerring ease. The domains he is associated with are Law, Air and Travel. He is a Green Dragon. Regardor- The dragon of Earth is Lawful Good. His titles are Little Rock, the Lanslide of Opportunity, and the Stone of Knowledge. His size may fool many that see him, but he is stronger than he seems. He favors the Barbarian class, and he gives them advice to use their Strength sparingly to save their energy for more important matters. The domains he is associated with are Law and Earth. He is a Copper Dragon. Schallk- The Dragon of Ice is Lawful Good. His titles are the Iceberg of Intellect, the Wiltering Storm, and the Old Nobleman. He is the eldest among the Dragon Council, and he has complete control over the elemental forces of Ice. He has supreme knowledge over the history of the Nelastor Peninsula, and he has a library dedicated to him and his followers. He favors the Druid class, and he teaches them to the scholars of history and knowledge. The domains he is associated with are Law, Ice and Knowledge. He is a White Dragon. Teragorn- The Dragon of Corruption is Lawful Good. His title is the Shadowcaster. He is a smart dragon that can easily spy on his subjects while encased in intagible shadow. He favors the Sorcerer, and he trains them to prepare them to fight with their hearts, instead of their fury. The domains he is associated with are Law, Shadow and Luck. He is a Black Dragon. Torvek- One of the Legendary Dragons is Lawful Good. His titles are the Dragon of the Sun, the Keeper of Light, and the Astral Key. He is the master of law, and is willing to purge of all evil shadows that lurk within the worlds. He favors the Cleric class, and he shows them the way to everlasting light, and teaches them how to control it. The domains he is associated with are Law, Sun, and Astral. He is a Brass Dragon. Evil Dieties: Corelloth- The Dragon of Shadows is Lawful Evil. Her title is the Dragon Queen. She is the loyal servitor to Tiamat, the Dragon God, and she ensures that all Chromatic Dragons be forever faithful to Tiamat and her rule. She favors the Cleric class, and she makes them seek out Chromatic Dragons that do not follow Tiamat. The domains she is associated with are Chaos, Strength, and Shadows. She is a Black Dragon with violet scales. She likes to disguise herself as a Human, Elf, or Half- elf Cleric, Druid, Wizard or Sorcerer. She commonly assumes the guise of Korisona, the Half- elf Druid. Omega Skarrvri- The Dragon of Chaos is Chaotic Evil. His titles are the Draconic Scourge, the Cloud of Destruction, and Dominator of Dragons. He is Corelloth's personal bodyguard, and he seeks out any good dragon and converts them into evil, cold- hearted tyrannical beasts. He favors the sorcerer class, as his alternate form is a Kobold Sorcerer- Skarrmooris. The domains he is associated with are Chaos, Destruction and Control. He is a Bronze Dragon. This is the campaign, so far. I will come back soon to add more information. |
| #2mostly_ghostlyFeb 26, 2009 22:27:58 | I'm glad you have such enthusiasm for the game. The books, I agree, usually aren't terribly necessary in creating a setting (at least during the early stages), though you will most likely need them eventually as reference. Now, to business: Having a set of extremely powerful dragons serve as the movers and shakers of the setting runs a severe risk of overshadowing the actions of the players. Who is this "main character"? Are you referring to a player? Because if not, the same risk is run. What exactly makes this setting "like no other"? You have an (apparently) psuedo-European setting, dragons, a Good King Monarch Man, and a Big Bad Evil Dragon, none of which breaks from genre tropes in any big way. The idea of a witch cursing the Queen is quite neat though (as it departs from traditional D&D/Tolkein magic and harkens back to fairy tales), and is something I'd suggest exploring more. |

| #4SteelMirrorMar 11, 2009 15:15:07 | I'll echo the cautionary note on the "main character". DMPCs can be annoying if not used properly, i.e. the DM who controls the setting also controls a character, who just happens to be the plot engine, most admired character in the entire setting, and most powerful member of the group. Ask yourself these questions. Is the DMPC going to define your campaign's storyline? Would you, as a DM, "cheat" to prevent your character from dying in combat due to a lucky enemy crit? Do you plan on making an epic background for that character that outshines the types of backgrounds the other PCs are likely to make? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", then I would seriously reconsider whether you as DM also run a character. |

I'm not really sure on what you mean by "Cheating" from an Enemy Critical, because that is virtually impossible. Xeadin is the main character of the campaign. Anorbus is his home country he lives in. And I'm not entirely sure if you're in a cranky mood or something, but I'm picking up a vibe in your message that I find kind of offensive. I didn't just create this campaign for nothing. I wanted a type of campaign that sends Xeadin out into the unknown wilderness- the outskirts of Anorbus (basically other campaigns). |
| #6SteelMirrorMar 24, 2009 21:25:54 | I'm sorry if I came across as being offensive, I didn't mean to be. But I do still sort of worry that maybe you are too interested in playing your own character, and that might overshadow the other players' characters. Have you talked to them about your character? And told them that yours is the main character of the campaign? Because generally PCs have more fun when they get to be the main characters. Again, I'm not trying to be offensive so please don't take this as a personal attack. It's just that many people make the mistake of stealing their players' thunder because they are so excited about their own custom campaign setting, and I'm trying to help you avoid that (if indeed that is a problem). |

I apologize for being rude, myself. Sometimes I get a little 'rough' around the edges. After all, this IS my first campaign, so some of the elements might have gone past me, but I did what I could to keep myself and others at bay. |
| #8XeadinMay 18, 2009 20:08:37 | The plot thickens, as Korisona, the Witch behind the chaos of Anorbus, is growing stronger. She has found the gateway the the Elemental Chaos and is willing to open it. If she does, then prepare to see alot of Elementals and Archons raging across the landscapes of ALL of your campaigns. Korisona is threat to the entire D&D realm and she needs to be stopped! |
