This being his first game he relied on me to help him create such a character. The Resourceful Presence build from Martial Powers seemed appropriate enough for Cap, and it even includes powers that work specifically with throwing weapons and shields. The problem is that the throwing shield from Adventurer's Vault doesn't allow its wielder to use it with class powers. Also, even as the shield progresses in level, it doesn't really scale too well with other weapons. So I devised the following feat; SHIELD SENTINEL (Multiclass) Prerequisites: Str 13, proficiency with light or heavy shields Benefit: You can treat the throwing shield as a 1d8 heavy thrown weapon with a range of 10, the off-hand property, and a +2 proficiency bonus for purposes of using powers with the weapon keyword. In addition, you gain a +1 feat bonus to attack damage rolls whenever you make an attack with a throwing shield. Special: At 16th level the proficiency bonus increases from +2 to +4, and the feat bonus to attack and damage increases from +1 to +2. At 26th level, the proficiency bonus increases from +4 to +6, and the feat bonus to attack and damage rolls increases from +2 to +3. Personally, I feel the feat allows the throwing shield to scale like a superior crossbow in terms of attack bonus and whatnot. I'm not sure if I should divide the feat into multiple feats at different tiers, but I think making it a multiclass feat balances things nicely. It also opens the door to a unique set of powers that work only with the throwing shield... perhaps ways to hit multiple enemies or cause knockdown? There are a lot of ways I could go with this. Any suggestions? |
