| #1Style75Dec 21, 2011 8:50:00 | I'm putting together a Christmas themed 4e encounter. It's for a party of six level 16's. I do not want it to be a straight up kill Santa fight, I need more going on that ties it directly to Christmas. Any suggestions? |

(He's so practiced at being bad that he knows how to cover his tracks.) Santa will show up once around midnight, then again after taking care of the other children in town, then just before daybreak - last chance. To complicate things, there might be other, good, children in the house, and they DO deserve toys from Santa. For a finale, the bad boy lets a burglar into the house. (Give him lots of HP; the PCs are likely to alpha-strike him. If caught, he'll rat out that the boy is his accomplice.) If you've seen The Nightmare before Christmas, well, protect Santa from that whole townfull of loonies. Or ... the PCs must cover the escape of the Holy Family from Herod's paid executioners. But they can't be obvious about it; no knock-down drag-out fights with the army. Instead give the Controller - or a "chessmaster" character - lots to do. Push the Secret Police back off the edge of the map, pull them deep into difficult terrain, mess up their standard action (Warlocks can do this), drop them in a ravine, &c. The big strong guys in your group can tear down bridges, steal the soldiers' gear and mounts while the soldiers search a village, obtain a wagonload of manure (you got that HOW?!) and dump it in the road, hamstring soldiers' horses with a well-aimed RBA, whatever will slow down pursuit for long enough that a man and his heavily-burdened donkey can walk across the border and out of arrow-shot range. For variety, sneak into the king's castle and Dominate him so he will order a halt to the pursuit! P.S. Love your sig. My son started playing in 5th grade, with a 1980's era Basic D&D set I found buried in my closet. |
