| #1falstyrNov 15, 2008 6:58:06 | So far I've never made a class or monster myself. And its very...difficult hehe. At this time it seems that for the Battlemage class it is possible to copy a lot from various existing classes and mix/match it together. Still with one "tree" it seems to be build from scratch after all. I start with 3 core builds for the Battlemage. And when you go to Paragon -> Epic there will be 2 more builds for each specific core build. Since this is my very first attempt to creating a class of my own. Don't hesitate to flame my balls off ;) Let's see how far we can get... |

Creating a Battlemage During the War of the Four Banners it became clear that specialists of armed combat and magical combat would not suffice. A need grew for people who were capable to use both to a decent degree. Unable to specialize in either, but proficient enough to scare the opponents and catch them off guard. After some research the government officials decided to start Project battlemage and devised a training program to generate three different types. All rely on their intelligence complimented by strength. But the remaining skill was what set each group subtly apart from one another. Brutal Battlemage (defender) I’ll turn them into smoldering piles of ash before everyone’s eyes. The Brutal Battlemage was created to be used in the field. Hidden among other soldiers he was to catch the opponents off guard by his combative application of both magic and melee skills. They apply the arcane arts to melee combat. The combat skills they possess are enhanced by the magic they wield. The flourish of a brutal battlemage’s weapon not only bites with steel, but also with fire, lightning, or other powerful forces.. Your style of combat focuses on subtle flashy attacks that call up elemental forces and throw your opponents around the battlefield. Your attacks use Intelligence, so that should be your primary ability score. Strength should be your second-best ability score, since it enhances your assault powers and keeps your base attack bonus high. Constitution helps your survivability. Suggested Feat: Escalating Assault (Human feat:Weapon Focus) Suggested Skills: Arcana, Athletics, Endurance, Intimidate Suggested At-Will Powers: greenflame blade, spear burst Suggested Encounter Power: flame cyclone Suggested Daily Power: burning spear -Based heavily on the Spellsword (assault swordmage)/Fighter/wizard Infiltrator Battlemage (striker) When they know I’m there it’ll be too late for them As with any war there are behind the scenes political games going on as well. These require more subtle approaches. The infiltrator battlemage is used as a small group, or solo operatives which took care of covert operations. Sneaking in and out of places to gather intelligence. These battlemages preferred to talk or cheat their way out of conflicts whenever possible. If there was need for a combination of intelligence gathering and assassination the infiltrator battlemage was the one to take care of these tasks as well. Their most important ability is the Dexterity to move stealthily and be able to use ranged weaponry. On top of that the attacks make use of intelligence for subtle arcane elements to be added to the attach. Like the electrified arrow striking the heart of an ambassador. Charisma is the third ability which enhances the possibility to gather information and talk your way out of situations. Suggested Feat: Suggested Skills: Suggested At-Will Powers: Suggested Encounter Power: Suggested Daily Power: -Partially based on spellsword/rogue, but needs to be re-done a lot as well. Inspiring Battlemage (leader) We are one with the universe and as one we shall prevail! The government officials felt the need for a battlemage able to inspire and lead groups of his companions into battle as a unit. Thus the Inspiring Battlemage was born and eventually trained for that purpose. You lead by exhortation, encouragement and inspiration. Your powers help your allies find new surges of courage and endurance within themselves, helping them heal, shrug of debilitating conditions and protect your allies with magical shields of force. You need Intelligence to apply the magic to the shields as well as do most damage with. Charisma should be second best ability since that is needed for almost all the benefits you give to your allies. Strength should be the third ability to do some minor melee damage as well. Make sure you also keep constitution fairly high as well so that you can take a good beating while defending your allies. Suggested Feat: Suggested Skills: Suggested At-Will Powers: Suggested Encounter Power: Suggested Daily Power: -Based on Warlords/spellsword (shielding swordmage) |

| #10AldothNov 15, 2008 18:32:11 | many after the War of Four Banners spoke of the terrors and wonders that they saw. But one thing filled the hearts of many a young child with hope and excitement. It was tales of the fabled Battlemages. An order born in the heart of battle these men and women represented a beacon of hope to those who feared that the specter of war would last for eternity. Even if the reality may have been something less glamorous. |
