got the idea of a potentially good class for the homebrew players of 4E. Since the Ranger is currently the only dude with actual ranged powers. Ive came up with a basic concept.

My first problem is power origin: Martial or Primal/ im leaning on primal, as I feel it suits the class better. heres some flavour text of the concept, slightly biased to primal.

A nomad of the forest, you seek to remain as the other inhabitants of the forest do: free. It is this compulsion to remain free that you gain your connection to the primal spirits; which grant you the powers needed to live as one of the forest.
---

my second problem: which is the class feature that more or less is it's epicenteral one making it what it is.

I think "skill/s of the Hunter" is a good name (possibly plural as i may add a secondary feature to it"
it enables the person to wield a their weapon (havnt decided to go bow or Cbow_) As well as a Dagger in their bow/cbow Wielding hand. And are able to use either one whilst still holding the other, obv the bow is swappd to other hand while u hak n slash. u cnt use both at same time.

Im slightly at odds on how to word this feature. (anyone think its overpowered?)
ppl whove played metal gear solid 3/4 will know what im on about.

help much appreciated.

What? I assume you mean the only martial class with a lot of ranged powers?

Anyway. Check out the Seeker class. It's a new class for the PHB3 (Previewed in Dragon magazine) that is a Primal power source Archer class.

i hd a felling thatd bite me. Im rubbing out the seeker as PH3 aint out yet. so previews aside Ranger is only class with ranged weapon powers (rogue uh uh, daggrs dont count)

Ah, Ranged WEAPON powers. That clears it up. You initially said simply "ranged powers", and I was a bit baffled, since clearly wizards, clerics, warlocks, and a variety of others certainly have plenty of ranged powers.

Anywho. Still saying hang on. Before you put all this work into a class that is basically a reflavored Ranger, I recommend waiting to see what the Seeker is like.

aww.. i spose. but i guess u could say that to everything at one point (barb is warrior) (wiz is warlk is sorc= diff is HOW they gt powers, and their orientation (dmg/cont)

not to attack you or anything, just pointing out that if everyone stopped at class creation when they heard "its a reflavour of,...." then the homebrew class list, i can guess would be a lot smaller

ill just go an work on a DIFFERENT (NOT REFLAVOUR) class, spurred by the recent Necromancer post in the controller section.

In either case, Ranger's aren't the only class with ranged weapon powers. Even if you want to ignore Rogues (their ranged weapon powers aren't restricted to daggers, btw), you still have Bards and Artificers to work with.

But I'm gonna be honest, your concept doesn't sound like a reflavoring of the Ranger to me. It sounds like it is a Ranger, so I'm afraid I don't udnerstand your goal here. It sounds like you want to make a class because you want to make a class even though everything you need to make that character is already out there without even requiring any reflavoring at all.

meh.. opposite actually, i want to create a ranged class that has no connection to the Ranger at all, except for their preferance (mostly) to use ranged weapons, which was why i was going for Primal as the power source, i had quite a few things (even a theme for the dailies... but i always get ahead of myself) sorted. I acrually only wanted help in wording a class feature, but ill stick to me necromancer for now... its going a lot faster
