Note that the name is not permanant, nor is any part of this concept; this is just what I've come up with so far.

I'll start by listing my concept, the idea I started with:
Basically, I wanted a spellcaster who, instead of learning a bunch of different spells, learned two or three, and developed his knowlege of those spells to the level where he was able to manipulate those couple spells into different forms. As such, instead of having separate encounter and daily powers, he should have at wills that themselves have different encounter and daily uses.

Example, let's say that the powers in the list were Blaze (fire), Freeze (cold), Bolt (lightning) and Blast (thunder).

Blaze might be a close burst 5, one target in burst, 1d10 + mod fire damage. In addition, it would have a unique striker mechanic tied to it.
Freeze might be a range 10, one creature, 1d10 + mod cold damage. This would also have it's own unique striker mechanic.

At first level, if you chose these two as your powers, you would have access to a Blaze encounter 1 power and a Freeze encounter 1 power, as well and blaze and freeze level 1 daily powers.
A level 1 encounter for blaze might be an area burst 1 within 5, while the daily might be area burst 2 within 10.
At level 3, the blaze encounter might instead be a close blast 3, and at level 5, the daily might be a wall.

Each power tree would have it's own powers that are roughly equivilant to powers of the same level and type, and would have it's own unique striker mechanic. I'm still working on what the striker mechanics might be, but I have a few ideas. For example, Fire might have limited exploding dice (if the damage die reads maximum, you reroll it and add the second roll to the first; this would be limited to one reroll early on.), and lightning might do ongoing damage as it's striker mechanic.

This is an open concept; I welcome all thoughts, critiques and ideas.

over all I like the concept, perhaps though have them select only a single one so perhaps Blaze, for at will they would get a close and ranged aplication of the power, This form lends itself better to class creation IMHO. But over all I like the idea

you might get some trtaction looking at the power point mechanics from psionic classes. that could provide a structured method of determining the ability to boost spells.

I think you should add a basic power for every element. Or at least i want a freaking acid blast attack.

Yeah that's definitely the right way to take this, some sort of gain X encounter build points towards one of your encounter effects.

P.S.: :3
