In the last campaign I was in, my character was desperately devoted to his god, and I don't wanna go that route again- hence, Favored Soul. Mechanically speaking, all I'd have to do is call myself a favored soul and I'm good. Cleric is an easy conversion (especially when spontaneous vs. memorized is gone). The only thing I'm struggling with is Ritual Caster. Ritual Caster is something that a character gets through formal training (clergy & academics), and a character who was simply blessed by her god wouldn't have something like that. So my real question is this: What could I replace Ritual Caster with? |

As an alternative, just completely change the fluff of rituals. Who said you have to read scrolls or something? The character could just play a song on his lute, or carve a small statue of a saint, or throw some herbs into a fire... Simply give him some very naturalistic way to revere his deity that does not involve any holy scripture or other signs of organized religion. From a mechanics point of view, it's pretty irrelevant how your character performs a ritual. |

Based on the character concept, I'd have you multiclass into Warlock, to represent your pact with your deity. Just as you could reflavor Ritual Casting to reflect your tie with your god (a very cool idea btw, mkill), you could reflavor your Warlock ability to match your god's abilities or preferences. |
