Basically, the campaign takes place a couple thousand years prior to your standard D&D setting, in that whole "Age of Myth" thing and such, where people use words like "primordial" and "ancient" to describe things nowadays. People are still only just learning to harness magic for their own use and the gods still walk among us. At least, that's where the main story will take place. For the actual opening, which takes place today (at least, in the "today" of your usual fantasy setting), the game will start with the players all gathered in a drawing room; they can interact, describe their characters, etc. Then, an old man enters, who chuckles when he sees all of the children "playing hero." He'll bring them in around the fireplace, and ask which story the little ones would like to hear this evening. Players will get a bit of bonus XP if they catch on quick, and more if they really run with it. This is all to create the sense of myth within the myth that I'm striving for. The players aren't just heroes in an epic, they are the heroes in a child's fantasy. I think it would be a good bit of extra role-playing. Thoughts? Has anyone done something similar in the past? |
