It seems like it's far too easy for a monster's move to exceed a fighter's DEX bonus by a large margin, meaning opting for Agility is always taking a very real chance of just letting the enemy get away from you. The chance of maybe knocking it down is nice, but not really 'agile.' Here's an alternative: Combat Agility (Fighter class feature, replaces Combat Superiority) When an enemy provokes an OA by exiting a square adjacent to you, you can shift into a square adjacent to him as a Free Action instead of taking the Opportunity Action. If the enemy continues to move you can choose to shift again, or take the OA. You can use Combat Agility to shift a total number of squares equal to your Speed + DEX mod between the end of your turn and the start of your next turn. This allows a fighter to stay next to an enemy who tries to move away from him. The Fighter only loses his OA if the enemy stops moving and takes a non-provoking action. If the enemy outruns the fighter, the fighter at least gets an OA as a parting shot. I considered giving it DEX mod to OAs, but, in combination with the Brawler's OA-useable at-will, that'd be a bit much. |

The fact is, because it happens after an enemy action and forces you to follow them where they go, rather than happening first and stopping their action completely, it's going to be worse than Combat Superiority 95% of the time even with your changes. Just about the only thing I could see as an alternative would be if Combat Agility just meant that your OA's knocked enemies prone, rather than stopping their motion and getting a bonus to hit. It's probably the only way you'd make it appealing enough for me to consider it. |

I don't mind if it's not quite the equal of Combat Superiority, since it's for the DEX build, which'd have some advantages of it's own over the WIS build. My thought was 1) 'Agility' implies mobility, and 2) you don't get the attack bonus or stop movement on a hit, but you stick to them whether your OA hits or not, so it's still sticky. Oh, and 3) what's knocking the enemy prone got to do with 'agility?' A Combat Superiority OA will hit, what 60 or 80% of the time vs an ordinary foe, less if it's got some sort of mobility AC bonus or is overleveled? If you miss, the enemy waltzes off. With this, you move with them as they move, so, if they don't get away from you (move more than your Speed + DEX mod), you're there waiting with your Combat Challenge Immediate Interrupt, and your OA still available. Plus, if they do outrun you, you get the OA, which, if it's Grappling Strike, still has a chance of stopping their movement. |
