Hi All,

Does anyone know to a really good character tracker/combat tracker that can be printed out ? I can make my own but i thought id ask first. Ideally something i can write character stats onto and then use in a game session.

Thanks in advance.

Not really sure Homebrew is the place for this, more likely General.  Also incase you didn't know, you made two identical topics if you can delete one of them I'd suggest it, just wanted to let you know incase you weren't aware.

What exactly are you looking for when you say "character/combat tracker"?  Do you mean as a DM you're needing something to keep track of iniative?  That's not hard, our group uses notecards.  Or when I DM I just make a list on my laptop(less paper used, I likey!).  I mean if you're wanting something to write your character's stats one...that's what a character sheet is for so yeah, not too clear on what you're wanting, or why maybe more prudent.

There is a program my friend found called Virtual Combat Cards.  It's a basic program, mainly for iniative control.  You can upload the basic stats(HP, defenses) of characters and monsters, then have them in iniative.  Rolls for you or you can type a number in.  Then it allows you to keep track of damage, add healing, status effects and all.  Not a bad program I used it once it takes a little getting use to.  That MAY be what you're looking for, but it's not something you print out and take to a session, being a program.

Hi Alitain,

I'm sure ive seen on the internet a printed out sheet that you can fill in with pencil that effectively lists character stats, key skills etc that you can then use as a DM in game. Typically i would guess its to minimise asking for data from players as you will already have it in front of you on one sheet.

The one i remember seeing but now cant find had initiative, stats, ac, defences, hps etc.

And thanks for pointing out the two posts. No idea how that happened.

Don't worry it happens sometimes.

Well as I mentioned, our group uses notecards.  We just put HP, Defenses, Passive Perc/Insight, and Initiative on it and that's really all that's needed.  Even then though whoever is DMing asks if the attack hits unless the atk roll is obviously high.  Or we roll a 18 or 19 since at that point it's basically guaranteed to hit.

But there's really no reason to have anything else listed on a card for the DM.  You don't need any skills(other then passive perc/insight) because if they do come up during combat that's all on the players to roll so having them available to the DM is pointless.  And the only stats prudent to the DM's job are really the defenses, and passive perc/insight.  You really don't even need HP because the HP will obviously change a bunch during combat.

So I'd just recommed getting a package of blank flashcards and having the players list their Defenses, Passives, and Iniative.  You can add HP if you want, again not necessary.  Then I'd recommend getting a little box or something to keep all the cards together.  A lot of people in our group constantly lose their cards despite us having one because I can never seem to get everyone to hand their cards back at the end of a game so they stay in one place.  So I recommed having a single place to keep all the cards then you can pass them out each game, people can update them if needed, and once combat happens put in their initiative and hand them to the DM.  Then if you're doing multiple encounters per session just hand them back, and there ya go.

Or use the Virtual Combat Cards program that I mentioned if you use a laptop to play with since that basically is used for the essential stats needed for a DM during combat, and then keeps track of iniative.  Either one of those two options would be what your looking for I think.
