| #1PrimeSonicOct 05, 2009 13:05:39 | ------------------------- EDIT: REVISIONS IN PROGRESS Feat: Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Must be able to use implements. Effect: All implement typed attacked powers that target only a single creature gain benefit of the High Crit property. Use the power's dice for determining the extra damage dice rolled. ------------------------ How's it look? I think the idea is pretty much self explanatory.
----- Revised: Feat: Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Must be able to use implements. Effect: All implement typed attack powers deal extra damage on critical hits. This damage is equal to 1dx per tier where x is the dice listed on the power. This only applies to damage that occurs on hit. Ongoing and aftereffect damage does not apply. |
| #2Crimson_ConcertoOct 05, 2009 13:41:30 | Use the power's dice for determining the extra damage dice rolled. I have no idea how this works. How is one to determine exactly how many dice to roll? |
| #3PrimeSonicOct 05, 2009 15:26:09 | High Crit: When you score a critical hit, the attack deals an extra +[W] damage per tier. Implement powers that could use this would usually say "Hit: 1d8 + Wisdom modifier radiant damage" This attack would roll an extra 1d8 in Heroic, 2d8 in Paragon, and 3d8 in Epic on critical hits. |

And how do you determine what on a power is equivalent to the [W] in question? In the case of the Warlock's Witchfire, do I assume that I roll High Crit dice as though the power were 2[W] damage with a 1D6 weapon or 1[W] damage with a 2D6 weapon. In the case of the Sorcerer's Dazzling Ray, so I assume that I roll High Crit dice as though the power were 6[W] damage with a 1D6 weapon or 3[W] damage with a 2D6 weapon or 2[W] damage with a 3D6 weapon or even 1[W] damage with a 6D6 weapon? I have no idea, and unless you provide more detail, nobody else does either. |

What if you set it up like this...... Feat: Channeled Spell focus (Heroic Teir) Prerequisite: Must be able to use implements. Effect: All powers with the implement keyword that's target is a single creature gain an additional dice of damage with a critical hit; this increases two 2 additional dice at 11th and 3 additional dice at 21st. |
| #6Crimson_ConcertoOct 05, 2009 23:07:11 | Effect: All powers with the implement keyword that's target is a single creature gain an additional dice of damage with a critical hit; this increases two 2 additional dice at 11th and 3 additional dice at 21st. That would be much more clear, but I still have two concerns: A) Take a power like to Sorcerer's Dazzling Ray. It does 6D6 damage but it obviously mechanically analogous to a 3[W] weapon power made with a 2D6 damage weapon. With your wording, it would come out under what is expected. However, this is probably okay to err on the side of underpowered as opposed to the side of overpowered, and it's probably even more neligible when I consider... B) Why are we limiting this to power with a single target? There are plenty of weapon powers that attack multiple targets and work just fine with the high crit property. It might recall a bit more wording, but it's not like it can't work. I think opening it up to all implement powers is just fine... |
| #7the_chaotic23Oct 05, 2009 23:39:21 | that it would; i was just going based off of the original poster. It would be more balanced if it effected area powers as well. and (i know i dont have all books available) but looking through, i didn't see any weapons with the high crit property that deals 2d6; at most i've seen 2d4 on the falcion. |

Okay, I finally understand where the confusion lies and where I'd need to make an adjustment. It'll probably work best as chotic23 stated. As for why not apply it to area powers: I wouldn't want it to be something that could get out of hand. Characters that use mostly area powers will tend to roll more crits than other classes simply because they are doing more attack rolls. If no one can see this getting out of hand, then maybe such a restriction need not apply. |
| #9the_chaotic23Oct 06, 2009 8:30:51 | that is true, yet at the same time i could make a swordmage who specializes in area attacks, or a fighter, or a cleric, or a barb. Given at times it isn't to practical, but everyone has access to area powers of some sort; allowing it to effect area powers would help balance it out, because as was noted; weapons with multiple dice gain an extra [W] of damage, not an extra dice. if you dont want to make it effect area power all that much, put a slight restriction on it. |
