| #2drnickDec 01, 2009 14:25:30 | I would seriously consider changing the duration of the racial power to until the end of the target's next turn. It could possibly work as a daily as well. |

You'll have more luck modeling Confession as a series of increasingly powerful class features, since it's such an extreme power by any standards. (You touch someone, and they become your absolute slave until you die - that's extreme). What you have now is too powerful for a racial power, yet doesn't come close to what it does in the books or show. Heck, 'Confessor' could be an Epic Destiny. |

Combine it with its own Paragon path and you only have to deal with a few powers that every Confessor would have, rather than dealing with a whole class. Also, you may be able to play up the initial reaction to confession as different status effects. Dominate for one turn, then unable to attack the confessor (save ends) but still able to attack the Confessor's allies, then that sort of thing. Dominate with a sustain:standard type of effect might not even be overly unbalanced as while the player is dominating someone their body is helpless. The initial idea of less-is-more and going for a race wasn't a bad thought though. |
| #5Crimson_ConcertoDec 01, 2009 23:21:12 | Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma The general trend is that racial defense boosts like that +1 Will are reserved for races that have both of their ability score bonuses going towards the same defense, races with STR/CON or DEX/INT or WIS/CHA, because they effectively can only get a +1 bonus to that defense from their ability score boosts. Your race, on the other hand, already gets a bonus to both Reflex and Will, so a further defense bonus is completely unnecessary. Discern Lies: When countering a bluff check with the Insight skill, you treat a roll of 2 - 7 as an 8. A roll of 1 still fails. This is confusingly worded. A) It's clearly meant to improve your Insight checks, but the way its worded, it could be confused for improving your bluff checks. B) I'd change "you treat of roll of 2-7 as an 8." to something a little bit more clear: "you treat any D20 die result of 2-7 as though it were a die result of 8." The way it's worded, now, I can't tell whether that 2-7 is supposed to be the number on the die or the total result of the ckeck, and the former appears to be what was intended. C) The last sentence needs to be removed. Skill checks do not automatically fail on a natural 1 to begin with.
You need to scrap this completely and start over. It's completely overpowered and terribly designed. I don't care if "compared to the actual power of confessors in the book series, it is extremely watered down." If you want it to be a balanced PC race instead of some sort of class, then you need to water it down more. |

Actually just modify the Wild Elf Skill: When you roll an Insight check, you can treat a d20 roll of 2 through 7 as if you had rolled an 8. A natural 1 is still treated as a 1. Granted this ability isn't as good, since most of the time you'll be using Passive Insight (which is a die roll of 10 anyways). I'd also recommend going Bloodline -> Paragon Path for Confessors. |
| #7ChimerasameDec 02, 2009 16:53:35 | This is one of those things where I don't know if it's possible to preserve the flavor of the original and have it remain balanced. I'd probably try to find a way to make "Confession" a daily power so that you can afford to have it be stronger--I'm not sure what you might put in its place for an encounter power, though. I will note that not every race has a racial encounter power (e.g. humans, dwarves--although second-wind-as-minor functions as such--and arguably half-elves after 11th.) If confession stays an encounter, then it'd have to only dominate for one turn--if even that. I might say that it's not even a domination; it's just an instantaneous effect that, if you hit, causes the target to do one single basic action of your choice. (Sort of like staff of provocation, but requires the target to be hit and isn't limited to melee attacks.) |
