Evening guys,

Been playing H1 with a group and wanting to carry this on into the FR Faerun setting to extend the campaign and then further into Gloomwrought. Reading the H1 setting description I understood that the Nentir vale is set within the Shadowfell, or have I completely misunderstood this element.

I fear I may have under some misaprehention that the Nentir Vale and Gloomwrought were set in the Shadowfell and that I could simply pose the connection from the shadowfell to Faerun through either a conventional Portal or via some of the other connections stated within the FR campaign guide. Have I got this totally wrong? Would appreciate some advice on this if anyone has any to give.

Cheers

Zirk

Nentir Vale is part of one world, similar to Faerun. The Shadowfell is a different plane within the cosmology used for the Nentir Vale setting (and I think Forgotten Realms uses the Shadowfell as well).

If you want to take players to Faerun from the Nentir Vale via traveling through the Shadowfell it may. make for an interesting story. Or if all you want is to move your campaign into Faerun while having run Keep on the Shadowfell it would be easy to say it took place somewhere in Faerun.

Or you could just place the Nentir Vale somewhere you deem approprate within Faerun.

I thought of doing that for a campaign once -- I considered placing the Vale in the northeaster areas of the Western Heartlands -- sort of near the Sunset Mountains. Essentially I would put the old Zhent fortress of Darkhold on the northeastern part of the Vale region (the Sunset Mountains and the Dawnforge Mountains would be the same).

I also thought about putting the Nentir Vale near Neverwinter and linking it with the recent Neverwinter Campaign Guide.

Place it anywhere you want!
