Some of my players have been worried that their favorite classes have been sort of neglected, in conversion to 4e. I would be more than willing to help, but, I'm not that good at making whole classes. So, Here's the steps I've taken to convert some classes to 4e :

- Select one 3.5e class

- Take one class out of 4e Player's Handbook, hereafter referred to as the base class

- Replace one base class feature with a new feature, especially made to make it more like the 3.5e class

- Create some unique powers to replace others in the 4e base class

- Create a multi-class feat , along with a few other feats for the class

- Create a Paragon path

Anyways, if you have a class you want converted to 4e, tell me which class on this tread, and I will convert it as quickly as I can and post the material.

Factotum. And I want actual jackitude (for lack of a better term), not just a rogue in disguise.

Yes, I AM a bastard. And if that doesn't work, savant and jester. :P

What Class is the Factotum, is it is a class? Also, try to keep suggestions to Wizards- produced material when it comes to classes.

Wizards produced, dungeonscape, can cast, fight, sneak, and is THE best skill user outside of an Exemplar. It's a full class, too.

The Savant and jester came in Dragon. The first one has a sort of "always on" ability that makes him and his allies better at quite a few things. The second one is plain wacky.

Hmmmm.... don't really know what I can do about the Savant and the Jester, though I think that someone has made a homebrew version on here.

The Factotum is sort of like a hodge-pdoge of all the classes, right?

I'm working on converting the Beguiler from the PHB II to 4E. I have a thread here for it. If you have any suggestions please make them, as I'm not very far in and inexperienced at class building.

If you want me to look at some of your work feel free to PM me to Good things come from teamwork!

Sorta. He uses a special mechanic called Inspiration points to fuel his abilities. This lets him boost his AC, his AB, his damage, and to add truly obscene amounts of SA, along with ignoring DR and SR, gaining extra standard actions, and casting a few spells. And at level 19, he can mimic three Ex class features of level 15 or lower.

Well, Armisael, I actually would suggest using either an "open" class system, or , even better an closer to what you're looking for, take a look at the blue mage class.

Baboonicles, I would be glad to help to help you. I'll take a look at what you're doing, and put in my suggestions. Would you like to see them on this thread, or your beguiler thread?

No need to, I knew that was impossible from the get go. This was an exercise in seeing how quick I could dismantle the mechanics presented on your first post. Consider it free beta testing. :P

Hmmm.... very clever Armisceal. Well, just for future notice, I will mainly being converting classes from major supplements. If someone wishes me to try and convert a custom class, they've got to post a link of some sort on this thread.

Probably best to keep it all in one thread really. A single thread with just collective suggestions and links to other threads? Either way is cool with me though, as I'll find them either way.

I'm a playtester. If I don't try to find holes big enough to drive a caravan of semi trucks through, I'm not doing it well.

You are a playtester? Good, Armisceal. I don't actually have the time to do powers (though I will make some as soon as I can), but for now, I will take care of the beguiler.

When it comes to the beguiler, for now, I would suggest the Rogue as a base class, but replace one of the class features (but not Sneak attack) with Shadow walk. Also, you could replace a Rogue class feature with this class feature:

Deceive the Senses: You are able to create illusions that allow you to distract your foes

Decieve the Senses Beguiler Class Feature

At-will

Effect: You are able to create illusions that bestow one of the following effects:

A) -1 to one attack

B) gain partial concealment

Special: Once this power is used, you may not use it for two turns

That takes care of the class feature part. Also, I would suggest that you use the rogue power list, then multi-class into warlock and use the power swap feats to gain some warlock spells, but If you liked the whole illsuions part of the beguiler , rather than the rogue, you could draw your powers from the warlock fey pact powers.

Which action does it take to use the feature? If it's a free or minor, it's too strong. If it's a move or standard, it's about right.

As for powers, I'd rob from the illusion powers from Dragon and from the feylock, with a minor in rogue. That would do it.

You appear to really know your stuff Armisceal. I did not think of the illusion powers. Decieve the senses has been changed to a standard action. Also, Feylock means Warlock, right? I did consider a blend of the Rogue and Warlock powers, but that would prety much be getting some multi-classing for free.

Speaking of Multi-classing I forgot to post my proposed multi-classing feat for the Beguiler:

Deceiver in the Shadows [Multi-class Beguiler]
Prerequisite: Dex 13
Benefit: You gain training in one skill from the beguiler skill list. You may use the Decieve The Senses class feature once per encounter.

Well, I was thinking of mostly taking from the warlock and wizard, really. Giving the beguiler Illusionary ambush and Eyebite as the at-wills, for example, and only giving a select few rogue powers which deal with trickery and hiding (Like Chameleon and hide in plain sight, or Ghost on the wind). Basically, we'd take feylock and wizard as the base, then use rogue for a few dailies and the utilities.

well, the wizard is more of a blaster than an illusionist in 4e. In the original vesrion of the Beguiler class (3.5e), it was sort of a rogue that could cast illusions and enchantments. So,the wizard wouldn't be a logical choice for this class. So, yes, a logical spelll list would consist of feylock powers, the illusion powers from dragon, and a dash of stealthy rogue powers; but it sort of feels a bit like multi-classing to me.

Well, it is, more or less. However, if we can pick the appropriate powers, we will get what we want, which is a striker/controller, so it'll be okay.

well, yea, if we pick the wizard powers that have to do with illusion. If you take a look at the list of spells for the beguiler in the PHBII, you'll see that they are all from the illusion and enchantment schools.

Feeling multi-classy is okay since I alway say the beguiler as a rogue/wizard hybrid class anyway.

That IS true ff6shadow. The beguiler sort of is a wizard/rogue hybrid, but the spells it had in 3.5e were all from the illusion and enchantment schools.

Also, BilltheManiac, I came up with something like what you're lookng for, a truenaming striker, in 3.5e, called the Truestealth. It was sort like a rogue that was able to use utterances, sort of like how the beguiler was like a rogue that was able to use illusions. Would you like me to convert the TrueStealth?

Half-elf Warlord multiclassed into Rogue for the Sneak Attack. Dilettante is Magic Missile or Scorching Burst. Take Jack of All Trades and Skill Training for any other skills you want.

Note: I chose Warlord because it's a good amalgam of leader/defender. But Warlock works, too, both for spellcasting and striker damage. Heck, go Rogue and multiclass into Swordmage. Bam, spellcasting and fighting prowess.

I suppose it really all depends on what you want your Factotum to do. 3/4 the classes can hold their own in melee, so really any of them have got your fighting sewn up. Then just multiclass into Wizard or Warlock for spellcasting and take JoaT and Skill Training.

But since you're arguing in bad faith, I guess you didn't really want that answer.

Not a bad job, Stogoe. If you could suggest anything like what BillTheManiac wants, that would be great. Otherwise, as I said, I will just convert the TrueStealth.
