So my girlfriend absolutely loves the Shaman. It's her favorite class, and she can't get enough of it. She's currently playing a Paladin in one of the games our DM is running, but she would much rather play another Shaman. The main issue is if we stack anymore healing in the party, its going to make the DMs job harder than it should be since it will make combat last (even) longer, and essentially force him into giving us easy mode fights, or encounters that will brutally destroy us with no real middle ground.

So, at first I offered to build an encounters style shaman striker, but he came up with a different solution. He suggested that we overhaul the beast master ranger, changing its primary to charisma (which we always felt was made more sense, since the shaman is all about communicating with the spirits anyway), basing its AC off of charisma, and reworking the animals so they're not walking flank machines and will actually do something. The most elegant solution we've come up with thusfar is to essentially make the animals walking weapons. Base all their attack and damage rolls off the 'Shaman's' stats, and go from there, with a feat to make whatever animal you have dire to emulate a superior feat. For example she wants a sloth, which would be a +2 1d8 reach animal, 1d10 if it was a Dire Sloth. This fixes a lot of the problems the beast master ranger had without horribly breaking it, and it makes more sense when its supposed to be an animal spirit that the Shaman is communicating with.

Are there any pitfalls that we should watch out for? Is this going to be too overpowered? Let me know if there is anything we should know about. We're going to be testing it in a one shot tomorrow. Level 4. All in all I don't think its going to be too terribly much to deal with since she isn't using Twin Strike, and opting for a long spear herself to keep with the tribal feel of the character.
