I've never converted an adventure module before so I was wondering if I could get some help with this from the wise wizards community. |

Redraft the encounters using custom 4e monsters and fix any problems that result from power changes on monsters. Various out of combat encounters and traps can be redone as skill challenges or removed if they are to trivial to bother. Remove and replace treasure with appropriate 4e treasure. The big non-obvious issue you have to think about is pacing. Because of daily powers and encounter powers, 4e has a very different pacing then older editions. Long sequences of less powerful encounters become trivial wastes of time and should be removed or grouped up into fewer, tougher encounters. You can also have problems with the opposite extreme, where several hard encounters in a row depletes the parties daily powers before they are done, but it's a lot rarer. At higher level you should also keep an eye out for things that don't normally exist in 4e but where common in older adventures. Instant death traps should be replaced with something else unless your intentionally aiming for an old school feel. Things like anti-magic fields, dispell effects, level draining and such are more challenging, you have to consider why the effect is there and how to replicate the feel in 4e. Jay |
