| #1starprowlerApr 15, 2011 16:57:28 | (This world was inspired by several sources,(video games, books, sci fi) but the purpose was to make a reason for all races and classes to be ok, and to make for unending adventure.)
Heres some cool features of the world -The worlds a dungeon: The world was once a planet sized magical city, now long burried and abadoned by its previous owner nature has taken over. Now every bit of the land has a dungeon under it or poking out to the surface. Most tunnels are intact but some require other methods of travel. Towns and villiages are either in or built onto old dungeons.
-The Worlds a gateway: Left over by the worlds previous owners a great citadal acts as a portal to other worlds, core is now the center point of several visiting worlds. Other portals are hidden all over the world, some are activly known and used for regular travel around core.
-A Great Consortium rules: The colonists from other worlds govern the world through a council made up of each of the Races. (Races of the players handbook) All but humans because they are new to the world and considered not ready. Dragon Born are Native and recently left the Council in an out rage.
-The worlds a center of trade: All the worlds that came through the nexus trade here. Those not looking to earn thier fortunes as tomb raiders can find great success as merchants and politicians. political intrigue is ripe with so many races involved.
-The worlds at war: The Dragon born are native to the world, they were once slaves of the previous owners, now they have a great empire. They rule much of Core. The Consortium are currently at war with them.
-Much of the surface is toxic: The surface is so over grown with nature, spores have made much of the planet unbreathable. The citadal and its surrounding area are fine because of its altitude, however much of the lower lands are not breathable with out a mask. Underground and in dungeons people can breath normal. Much of the travel is done below ground.
-Giant creatures rule the land: Most monsters on the surface are gargantuan in size or larger and ignore the smaller races. Unless provoked of course. Its not uncommon for an entire villaige to just disapear. Even monsters small or meduim like beetles can be several catagories larger. Another reason people build in the old dungeons. Regular sized monsters call the dungeons home as well. |

- Was the planet covered completely in this magical city?
- Why did the inhabitants abandon it, and where did they go?
- How was it all buried? Seismic activity that sunk it all? If it was all city, where did the nature come from to encroach over the whole thing?
- Maybe the magical inhabitants over-reached and opened up rifts into the Elemental Chaos?
- The Great Citadel is a cool visual, reaching up above the noxious spores and giant beasts of the surface. Would like to hear more about what it looks like, materials it's built out of, etc
- Again, back to it being a planet-sized city... what did people on the opposite side of the planet (or even just far away) from the Citadel do?
- Did they use permanent portals to travel instantly about the whole place? Do those networks of portals still exist?
- You mentioned that most travel is done below ground, but also that most of the connecting tunnels are long-destroyed.
- Is everything underground dungeon-like? Or are there places where the ancient cities collapsed into large caverns?
- From a practical gameplay standpoint, it may get a little monotonous if everywhere is like a dungeon
- Additionally, think of ancient civilizations of Earth... buried cities of old don't tend to stay intact.
- Maybe there was some sort of "bubble" over the ancient world-city that is still somehow holding up in places, allowing for large areas to be largely as they were before (just now underground).
- This also opens up the third dimension for fights with creatures/players that have the ability to fly
I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to tear your idea apart or anything; quite the opposite is true. I wanted to try and help raise some of the questions that might need to be addressed in order to fully flesh-out the idea since I think it is a cool one.
I love brainstorming this kind of stuff, and I'm here if you want to toss any ideas around. Have a good one, and keep at this idea! |

Was the planet covered completely in this magical city? Most of the land mass was, natrually not oceans and the like.
Why did the inhabitants abandon it, and where did they go? Although I'm still working it out, I thought it would be great if it was a great spell gone bad... real bad. I'm open to cooler ideas, thats why I posted it, there's some creative guys on here.
How was it all buried? Seismic activity that sunk it all? If it was all city, where did the nature come from to encroach over the whole thing? I thought both the destruction and the nature being side effects of this same massive spell damage. (when in doubt blaim magic) I like your idea about maby the citadel opened a gate to the elemental plane of chaos which is cooler then what i thought.
The Great Citadel is a cool visual, reaching up above the noxious spores and giant beasts of the surface. Would like to hear more about what it looks like, materials it's built out of, etc? I saw some cool stuff on Fanatsy Land Scapes thread, I'm still working this out as well.
Again, back to it being a planet-sized city... what did people on the opposite side of the planet (or even just far away) from the Citadel do? I'm afraid it didn't end well for them, the massive damage from that world ender spell (or Plane of Chaos prob did things to them i don't want to think about. However why couldnt some escape magicly or save thems elves magicly, maby theres still some of the original residents deep in the earth.
Did they use permanent portals to travel instantly about the whole place? Do those networks of portals still exist? I thought leaving these other portals open to find was a cool thing. That way what ever new race or threat a DM wants, bam its there.
You mentioned that most travel is done below ground, but also that most of the connecting tunnels are long-destroyed. I guess I should of said the tunnels far from the Citadal are, only a littles been explored. I should prob think this through before I say "These tunnels are destroyed", a DM never says never lol.
Is everything underground dungeon-like? Or are there places where the ancient citiecollapsed into large caverns? From a practical gameplay standpoint, it may get a little monotonous if everywhere is like a dungeon I felt underground caves are more then an option.Plus Above ground has every sort of regular terrain type(grant it on a fantastic level), and breathing with a mask is an option. (Valley of the Wind) Plus I thought high points in the land scape would be spore free. (so moving in and out of dungeons to get places, and you can never go wrong with classic air ship travel to these toxic free spots. (Of course I'm not glued to the Toxic world idea if its going to slow down adventure)
I love your idea of both intact and destroyed dungeons, and high spots for flight and the like.
I'll keep working out stuff on this world. But may be rethinking the above ground being toxic thing, Giant sized monsters are enough of a problem.
