So, I've been trying to peice together some of the lore in the books about the events that happened to shape the world, such as the Dawn War, the Coruprtion of the Elemental Chaos, making the Abyss. It's a little fragmented across the books, and isn't always easy to just browse through and pick up.

One thing that I have wondered, is the creation of the world. One passage says that the primordials created the world, but the gods gave it permanence. Which is an interesting concept.

So I wrote the following up (behind the sblock), for my world, to explain not only how and why the world was created, but also the Shadowfell and Feywild, and why the Gods and Primordials war agaisnt each other, and how the Dawn War happened. Right now I just have up to before the Dawn War. After the Dawn Age, I see the Dragon Age, the Chaos Years, and finally the current Age. Not to say a good idea might not create another age.

I would be interested and thankful for any input on events that have been listed in the various books. Maybe one day they will come out with a book that brings all this information together. Like I know how Io and Tiamat came to be, during the Dawn War and such. But don't worry about that, post what you know. Any Chronological information as it maybe is welcome as well.

It is written that the gods and the primordial’s have always warred and that it shall always be as such, for their very natures prevents peace from existing between then, but also keeps balance in the cosmos.

The Primordial’s are entities of enormous power and raw energy, which delight in chaos and the ever-volatile nature of the Elemental Chaos, the plane below where they arose.

The Gods, who divide themselves into those that are good, those that are evil, and those that see both sides, are entities of order, and though they may war against each other, they all know that the Primordial are the ultimate enemy. They make their domains in the Astral Sea, which floats above.

In between the two planes is the Mortal world, and the Feywild and Shadowfell, reflections of the Mortal world. The Mortal World did not always exist, and it is said that the Primordials created it, but that the gods gave it permanence.

The Dawn Age
Some say that before the two planes existed, all was one, in which spirits of great power lived. Some of those spirits sought order, and some sought chaos. Those that sought order began to shape the raw energy of the universe and give it order. This angered the spirits that wanted Chaos, and they strove to undo what had been made.

Some say that the Elemental Chaos always existed, and that the gods were powerful spirit from the Far Realms, refugees of a great war, who stole from the Elemental Chaos to make for themselves a home.

And there are those that believe the two planes have always existed as they are, and that both the gods and primordials are made from the very substance of the planes.

Whatever the origins of the gods and primordials, between the two began a great struggle. To call it a war does not fully describe the raw energy and power that erupted between the two sides. What resulted was a clear division of the two planes, each side retreating to the safety.

The gods, being entities of order, began building their domains, and shaping the Astral Sea and creating order, while the Primordials, unable to continue to fight the gods, turned on each other, and warred amongst themselves.

Though the gods fought amongst themselves, they all agreed that the primordials were the ultimate enemy, and began the construction of the Lattice of the Heavens, which connected the domains, so that a god may lend aid and strength to each other, should it be needed.

The Primordials did not understand the god’s need to create order, but did understand that the construction of the domains and the Lattice increased their power, and they moved to emulate them, so that the gods should not become more powerful and over throw them.

The Chained God sensing that Primordials unrest at what the gods were doing, went amongst them, and planted the seed of an idea. Coming together, the Primordials created from both the Elemental Chaos and the Astral Sea, the Mortal World, and it spanned both planes, allowing free passage between them.

The Chained God hoped that the battle between the two would weaken the gods, so that after he could betray them, and gain Lordship over all of the Gods in the Astral Sea.

But the war that the Chained God had hoped did not come to be, for he had made a mistake in telling the Primordials to use part of the Astral Sea in their creation. Because of this, the gods had some control of the new creation.

The Gods, seeing that this new world would allow the Primordials to pass into their plane uncheck, moved to close the way, by separating the new world into it’s own plane.

The Primordials had put of their own power into the making of the new world, and should it be sealed away, would forever be weakened. They struck at the same time the gods did. Thus neither side was completely successful.

The blow by the primordials shattered but didn’t destroy the new world, as it was protected partly by the gods, who contained the damage but splitting the world into many separate planets, and the worst of the damage was contained by enclosing it in their own planes, the Feywild, and the Shadowfell.

Great was the rage of the Primordials, but they were helpless, as the new plane stood between them and Astral Sea. They had recovered some of the power they had put in to the world in its creation when they cracked it, but not the full power.

To prevent the power from flowing back to the Primordials on it’s own, the Gods gave the new worlds permanence. Still the worlds were ravaged by Chaos, since they had been partially born of chaos. Order was given to the worlds, so that the chaos could be contained and somewhat controlled. (Note: why there are seasons)
