| #2magus_stragusAug 04, 2009 22:40:35 | Mmmm... Personally I think the class is underpowered. First, Crystalline Resilience is worst than the Durable feat; second, the racial power is much like Goliath's, but slightly worst (because it's tied to a single ability score, which would mean some classes wouldn't benefit as much as others). Also, you didn't state how long the damage resistance lasts. And third, you're not balancing those issues with anything else. In fact, the 5 speed just make it even more underpowered. You should try to balance it a bit more. My opinion, btw. |

You might also want to approach them from an angle other than purely "Your heavy and tough" especially since the picture is very lean, almost skeletal. Perhaps their entire body works as a sort of crystal brain, and thus they gain resist 5+1/2 level psychic due to their complex bain. Same can be said with maybe light refraction due to being a hunk of crystal, with resist radiant instead. Preferably not both, though perhaps start with psychic and maybe a "prismatic body" feat to get the radiant. Perhaps continueing with the psionc bent, a racial power that can perhaps, push them away or pull them close (1 square on each case) on a hit? sort of like, raw psychic power. something like: Cryestala Racial Traits Height: 6'-6'7" weight:200-310lbs Ability Scores: +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence Size:Medium Speed: 6 squares Vision: Lowlight Languages: Common, Choice of one other Skill Bonuses: +2 Arcana, +2 Endurance Crystalline resilience: Add one to the number of healing surges available to you per day Multi-Faceted Soul: You gain psychic resistance equal to 5 + 1/2 your level Rays of Thought: In an encounter, you can choose either to use either Thought Burst or Pulling Thoughts powers. Thought Burst Racial Power You unleash a wave of emotion and thought, influencing those around you Encounter Close Burst 1 Target: Each enemy in burst Attack: Intelligence+2, Wisdom+2, or Charisma+2 vs Will Hit: You push the enemy 1 square. Pulling Thoughts Racial Power You unleash a wave of emotion and thought, influencing those around you Encounter Close Burst 2 Target: Each enemy not adjacent to you in burst Attack: Intelligence+2, Wisdom+2, or Charisma+2 vs Will Hit: You pull the enemy into a square adjacent to you. its too early in the morning for me to include the scaling for the hit. |
| #4CyvarisAug 05, 2009 9:09:26 | I did this in about 5 minutes, and haven't really bothered to balance it yet. I was brain storming, and was wondering about the balance so far etc. I like the speed at 5, gives them a slow kind of lumbering idea, fluff wise. After looking at other races I agree they are underpowered. I post a revised edition of them soon. Edit: after looking at the picture again I agree the should be lighter, and have better movement. Edit again: darn their power is to much like the goliaths, but i think it suits them, made a feat to hopefully change this, maybe overpowered though. I am using constitution for it because it seems a very well constitution based power. Okay revision with a pair of feats. | #5magus_stragusAug 05, 2009 12:30:06 | Psionic attunement should be a feat instead. It is't good to give class-specific abilities to a race. I don't know, maybe give them some bonus to disease, poison or the like. |
| #6CyvarisAug 05, 2009 14:17:49 | Thank you, good so I will go back and get rid of it, add back in crystalien resilence maybe, would that bring them up to balanced? |
| #7Janx_14Aug 10, 2009 1:13:18 | I think it'd definitely get closer to balanced. I dunno, i think its still missing something to really set it apart besides racial power. I can't put my finger on it though. |
