The problem is that most mages are better off focusing ability points into their casting stats (although a few builds can play around with this since they have str or con as a secondary stat). I've always thought that a cool build for a mage class would be a heavily armored war-mage type. The best options I can come up with are applying magical themes to armor classes, multi-clasisng (some hybrid builds even). Now if we wanna get a little mor einvovled we can homebrew themes, class variants, or paragon paths to fit the concepts. |

Swordmages, Sorcerers, and Artificers have the easiest time meeting the prereqs for the heavier armor feats. Bards already have proficiency with some heavy armors, as do Hexblade Warlocks. |
| #4hattaOct 11, 2011 23:58:23 | The Yukes are a natural fit as Shardminds. I'd say Githzerai are a better fit to me. |
| #5hattaOct 13, 2011 16:26:23 | How is GIANT SWORDS: The Race remotely fitting? You're thinking Githyanki. |
| #6hattaOct 14, 2011 0:14:42 | Nope, Githzerai. That's their mechanical niche: giant swords. And how is that? Do they get proficiency with giant swords? Nope. +2 to initiative, +2 on saves versus daze/dominate/stun, shift 3 after second wind, and a defense increasing racial power. I see nothing about giant swords. |
| #7LightWardenOct 14, 2011 16:54:34 | Githzerai Blade Master feat (Dragon 378), it's basically the Dwarven Weapon Training for Heavy Blades with scaling damage bonus at higher levels. Fullblade and Bastard Swords are go. I don't think I've seen a Githzerai melee character without it (unless they were monks, in which case they had Zuoken's Centering). |
| #8hattaOct 14, 2011 18:06:23 | I wasn't including racial feats in my considerations, considering they're out of fashion design wise. |
| #9hattaOct 15, 2011 1:32:39 | Certainly it's the main draw if you are after an optimised character. I don't care about optimised characters so I didn't factor that in. |
| #10rampantOct 15, 2011 1:48:58 | So because they have one feat, one single solitary feat, you ignore every other feat, racial option, and more than a decade of racial lore to make the githzerai the sword happy bastards? and what's this 'outmoded' crap? I mean sure they're not the greatest race ever, but that seems harsh. The githzerai are a race obssessed with individual discipline and self-perfection, they tend towards contemplative classes Primarily the monk and psion, with a liberal helping of wizards, other psionic classes, and the usual smatteirng of everything else. They inhabit isolated monastaries, often in or near places of natural cataclysm in order to harden their minds and bodies. |

I think they meant racial feats when they said "outmoded", which is fairly true seeing as the last players book only had a reprint of one racial feat for the Revenant. |

| #13hattaOct 16, 2011 0:45:21 | Though I don't know where it ever said that Yukes are telepaths. Otherworldly spellcasters, yes but I don't remember them ever saying they were telepathic in the game. Although they may have in one of the sequels, which I haven't played. |
