At level 20, the PCs finally have their maximum number of daily attacks (4), the capstone having arrived courtesy of their paragon path. Prior to this, this issue will have slowly diminished as the PCs gained access to their 2nd daily attack power at level 5, and 3rd at level 9... so they have 11 levels of getting used to only having 3 daily attack powers at their disposal, but still 3/4 isnt all that bad... its those first 8 levels that really hurt, where it feels like its just not wise or safe to push on any further in a day once all dailies have been expended, just like the 3E dilemma of spell-exhausted casters. --- Exactly what I propose as a house-rule for anyone interested is this : --- For levels 1-4 when the PCs have 1 daily attack power : -the daily attack power can be used 4/day, but only 1/encounter. For levels 5-8 when the PCs have 2 daily attack powers : -both daily attack powers can be used 2/day, but each only 1/encounter. For levels 9-19 when the PCs have 3 daily attack powers : -the lowest-level daily attack power can be used 2/day, but only 1/encounter. --- Voila! more bang for your buck. At low levels, it effectively treats your daily powers as limited encounter powers, but diminishes as you get closer to obtaining your full complement of daily attack powers. Alternately, if 3 uses of a daily power are more to your liking than 4, simply change levels 1-4 : 3/day, 5-8 : the lowest-level power can be used 2/day, and eliminate extra power use/day for the 9-19 level range. What do you think? Bare in mind that the stated design goal is to make low-level play feel a bit more potent, and to give the players more uses of their daily powers which in turn will make them a bit more potent in combat and encourage them to push on and try to do at least 4 encounters a day, and not feel the need to stop and rest not because healing surges are running low, but because they hit a tough fight early on in the day and had to blow their limited dailies to survive, and thus justifiably feel that it might not be safe to push on in case they hit an equally tough or tougher encounter. |

But for my game I would do For levels 1-4 when the PCs have 1 daily attack power : -the daily attack power can be used 3/day, but only 1/encounter. For levels 5-8 when the PCs have 2 daily attack powers : -the lowest-level daily attack power can be used 2/day, but only 1/encounter. For levels 9-19 when the PCs have 3 daily attack powers : -the daily attack power can be used 1/day, and only 1/encounter. And then I would add the reliable keyword to all encounter powers and dailies. |
